How much hay do you all get throughand how often do you clean out the cages?

I strip mine completely twice a week and once a week wash all the houses etc

I'm currently getting through 9kg of hay a month for 6 piggies.

Do you linerhencages with newspaper and fleece on top?How easy is it to manage?

Can I see pics of people's fleece set ups?

Lol questionnaire! :)

My cage is basically ...

Towel with fleece on top. Top level is just a folded up fleece with no towel as it's so thick it doesn't need one when it's folded up.

I try to clean every 3 days but it doesn't always need it so it's more like every 5 days sometimes a week, but i poop scoop every 2 or 3 days to keep it clean for the piggies.

I used to have newspaper underneath but it didn't make a difference and if anything just made the cage smell more when it got wet !

I try to keep hay away from the fleece as it sticks terribly however the pigs like to plaster the top level with it as that is there eating area, and it's only a small space so it's not too bad. I only buy a hay every month and a half i'd say.

If i want to make a bedding area i fold up a smaller fleece or put an extra hand towel under the fleece to make it more padded in that area, usually under a pigaloo or something.

heres my cage.

I also use small bits of fleece to make little tent area's, like in the corners and let it drape down as the pigs love running through it and things.

Hope that helps. Any more questions just ask, I'm a fleece fanatic haha love the stuff for my piggies.

Yikes, six piggies. I don't know how my two would compare as they are both still not full grown yet and I don't have pics but I thought it would be worth letting you know.

For the time being, I have a commercial cage. I have cheap towels on the bottom of cage with fleece over the top. I have draped the fleece over the entire tray and have put the top part on top, so there is fleece flowing over the outside. I find this way, there isn't any way of the poops and peeps getting inbetween the fleece and the cage tray. I don't put any hay down on the fleece but the hay that they eat (held in a rack attached to the outside of their cage) mainly accumulates in one of the corners.

As both my pigs have ringworm I wash my fleece every 3 days using non-bio cheap washing powder from Home Bargains (95p a box!) and Vanish Oxy 99% hygiene at 40 degrees. I shake my fleece outside & brush it so there's no hay or poops left on it before I put in the washing machine as there's been residual hay in the machine a couple of times.

I stopped using fleece as carefresh was beginning to get costly and it was too dusty making my lads sneeze. I also like the fleece for my own reasons too - it looks pretty. But my bf has commented that it does have a tendency to smell more so will probably be switching to fleece & finacard when we get their C&C set up. e.g finacard in their bed/eating areas and fleece elsewhere.

Sorry for the long post

Thanks for that

That's an amazing cage makes mine look really dull!

I was thinking of using newspaper then towels thn the fleece. Two of the girls are wet pigs so I'd need something absorbent. I tried the wet ones on vet bed a while ago but it was literally soaking within two days.

I thought fleece was going to be a nightmare but it is actually pretty good. The only annoying bit is hair that gets stuck to it.

I currently have https://www.thehayexperts.co.uk/Hays%2C+Grasses+%252526+Herbs.4/Select+by+Hay+Type.130/Timothy+Hay.21/Timothy+Hay+-+Animal+Dreams.734.html one of these in a pillow case in my cupbard and it has lasted me like...Nearly a month or something :)) I also have nice burges hay that I give to him and that has lasted really well too.

What I did was I bought some fleece from Asda (£2 I think lol) washed it a couple of times and then I cut it into sheets that would fit the cage. That way I don't have to faff about folding the edges over and stuff. From one bought fleece I got two 2x3 sized fleeces. I change in the middle and end of each week so two pieces does me fine for now. I also use small towels underneath (he only really goes to the toilet in two corners and the hay loft) and I use newspaper under the hay in the hay loft.
The left over fleece I use on the ramp :) which also catches hay from the hay loft.

The easiest way to get hay and hair off of the fleece is to use a hard bristled brush. Not some flimsy pansy one. One that is gonna drag and catch all of the hay really well. I also like to rub the fleece on the fence in the garden to help catch the hairs :))

I actually really like it, it is great for him, less mess and money for me, and it is pretty too lol

Just been to the fabric shop, I got a kilo of bright pink fleece for £8 :)

I'm gonna do a trial run with the trio for a few days see how it goes.

I've switched to fleece and love it. My two are outside and a face full of shavings every time I clean them was getting annoying lol

Twiams that is the prettiest cage I've ever seen! I love the flags. Would you mind me pming you closer to September when I hope to build my C+C?
