So, I'm considering changing to using hay in the lofts of my C&C cages. Is it ok to just line the lofts with newspaper and top with hay?

Also, how often should I change the hay. Currently I use seed trays full of hay and change every day.

no ! i use b and m puppypads,too much washing with so many piggies.xx
I'm just a bit worried about all the single use plastic.

With just the five piggies maybe the reusable ones would work for me

I have these reusable puppy pads. I have cut a couple of them and they still work fine.

They are very good and stay dry after 2 weeks of use by 3 piggies (at the bottom of the hutch) and 2 piggies (at the top) I recently found this out when I was on holiday.
That's brilliant. I bought some of these on your recommendation but didn't know that you could cut them. I use them in the high traffic areas of my cages and they are really absorbent. The only problem i find is that it is really difficult to get rid of the hay that sticks to them. I have tried brushing them and also vacuuming but they still tend to have quite a lot of bits stuck to them. Have you found a good/quick way of removing hay from them?

I give them good shake after I've brushed the worst off into the bin. I wash them in a horse bag and then pop them in the tumble dryer. Most of they hay comes off them then. Better than if I line dry them.

Yes I have the washable puppy mats under my fleece in high-traffic cage areas, but I just use newspaper and hay in my loft- only 3 piggies use the loft so it stays quite clean, I change it twice a week.
