Hello

I was wondering if any of you have C&C cages which are stacked with different pigs on different levels and how easy / hard you find to get into clean them?

We have 10 piggies now and I am concerned about the space they have, they all live inside, the 2 sets of boars are fine they have double large hutches stacked on top of each other. at one end of the guinea pig room.
Its the girls I am concerned about I have been trying to get them all into double hutches so they have twice the floor space but the older girls cant or don't want to get up the ramps, I'm not too happy with having them in the indoor cages which are 45ins x 19ins.
I have room to make 3 stacked 70ins x 28ins cages which would be so much better for them I'm just concerned about how easy they would be to keep clean?

Kind regards
Kelly

I think there are people on here who have such set ups, and they have the front grids that fold out, so you can pull the corex tray out to clean. The only thing is I believe the levels would need reinforcing otherwise it would bow in the middle. :)

My c&c cage is 7 foot long by 28" wide and over 3 levels. The top 2 levels house 5 sows and the bottom houses 2 sows. The top 2 are connected by a ramp.

On each level the front opens and I also have a lid which opens at the front of the lid.

To stop it sagging in the middle I have 2 wooden struts along the length and also a few across it.

Since mine is so long and I wanted the correx high at the back to protect the wall it tended to sag in on the back wall so I connected it to the grids but on doing that cannot pull it out.... so I have to lean in to clean it which is hardest on the bottom level as I end up lying right in it to get to the corners at the moment. So not ideal but far better than the shop bought cages I had before...

Here's a view from inside the bottom level where you can see the wooden struts on the roof :

Thank you both, will look into all the materials but think the wooden battons would be a good idea other than using other grid through the middle to support.
Candy floss does the whole front of yours open up or do you have doors to each level?
Thanks Kelly x

The front of each level on my cage open independently. Its 6 grids long so on each level 3 to the left and 3 to the right of the front are joined together so I can open left or right (or both) of that level on its own.... if that makes sense..

I did find the bottom level a bit dark but the piggies dont seem to mind (the lights are outdoor weatherproof rope lights and the piggies cant reach them.... but being paranoid I only have them on if I am there)

PS I used white correx to try to keep it bright

just so you can see another example, here's mine, 2 levels of 4x2, 2 different boar pairs. I can obviously lean into the top and the layer underneath has 2 grids that i keep clipped together with bulldog clips and they fold out. I don't remove my correx, I just lean in and clean with wipes/spray etc, the downstairs can be a bit awkward, i get down on my belly sometimes lol! i'd like to raise it up a bit but it would block my kitchen window and this is the only room for them so alterations are on hold until we move next year. But otherwise this works fine, i'm used to it :)

Thank you everyone your posts have been really helpful, i have been pricing it all up today and its going to be around £110 for the whole set up which isnt bad, just need to raise some funds. I'm going to post to see if anyone has anyone has any spare grids i could buy, the set up is now going to be 2x4's as i miss calculated space in the guinea room but that works out at 60 grids i have 4 already and will buy 2 packs off ebay which makes 56 grids so I'm 4 grids short.

I used a puppy pen which is the same size as a 2 x 5 and those are only £30 or less :-)
