Thinking of buying this cage

Sorry, but it's way too small, it'd be like you living in a cupboard. You need minimum 120x60cm

Hang on... What are the measurements? Or is the picture squished?

I agree with the others.
The picture may be deceiving but that looks absolutely tiny. For boys, they need a huge amount of space. A cage of at least 140/150cm (5ft) is what is needed. The more space you can offer the better.

If it's this cage here, both sizes are way, way too small, unfortunately, for guinea pigs. The smaller size is not even half the recommended minimum size for boars, which is 140cm/55inches. It might look cute, but I don't think your boars would be very happy with it as they would have very little room to move around. Boars are territorial little creatures, and they need enough space to get away from each other, as well as space for multiple hideys, and space to run around and get rid of energy in order to avoid the chances of them fighting and their bond breaking. You also have to take into consideration with many cages that they are also smaller than they are advertised as the base slopes in (makes them easier to transport and stack!) so what's advertised as so-and0so cm may not actually be that.

It might be worth looking at a C&C cage if you can get one. You can often build yourself a much bigger cage at the same or for less than the price of a commercial cage, but, ultimately, the more space you can give them, the better, and the happier they are. It's often better to get them the biggest cage you can (that way you don't end up going through multiple cages. I went through 3 cages in less than 6 months!)

Why oh why do these companies sell such unsuitable cages for guinea pigs and rabbits, it’s terrible!
I know, there is no excuse for it. I notice though, they get away with it, by stating on the label, not for permanent use, must have free range time.

Just looked at the link and it has a 1 out of 5 star rating.

I have a gut feeling this thread is a troll. But sorry if I'm wrong

Sadly, tone doesn't always translate or come across on the internet. There was no sign that you were joking and posts have to be taken seriously, especially where animal welfare is concerned. It's great that your boys live in luxury, but many people aren't aware of how much space male guinea pigs require, and think that just because a cage like that says that it's suitable for guinea pigs it therefore is when it most definitely is not.

Never mind, there’s no harm done x Glad your boys live the life of luxury 😀

I’m glad to hear you were kidding, but we had no indication of that from your post. Humour can be difficult to communicate in the written word, and across continents.

You’d be surprised how many shoe box sized cages appear on this forum with the question “is this big enough for my 2/3/however many piggies?” Or “how many piggies can I fit in this?”. As a responsible forum committed to animal welfare we have to respond with the appropriate response to a post of that nature (or indeed yours) as it appears on Google and other search engines and we would hate for anyone to be under the misapprehension about recommended size guides for piggies.

mocking close minded people

That might be how you see it and I'm glad you were joking. However, those you mock aren't necessarily close minded. Many people join here after receiving advice from pet shops who are supposedly a trusted resource. It's not until they come here and find the information that they know it's incorrect. I believe those people don't need mocking, they need supporting to put the right care in place.

It's maybe also worth noting that we do get trolls occasionally who feel the need to make comments like these to wind up and toy with members emotions

mocking close minded people

I’m sorry but I am going to have to take exception to your thread and posting here.

If your only reason for posting on this forum is “mock close minded people” then I suggest you find another outlet for your entertainment. This forum is here to provide support and assistance to genuine members. There’s a reason why we have rules about posting and to my mind (and I’m not up for a discussion with you about this) you’ve breached them. Take this as a warning from me. Any repeat and your account may be liable to suspension or termination.
