I am think ing of ordering a c and c cage , I am unsure what to get , I have two piggies coming soon and can't decide what size to get , I have a large utility where it will go .
If I buy the single level can you add above it at a later date? Also do I need the lid , if they get out there is no where they can go really as it is a new build extension no holes or any thing , I was looking at getting a loft either side , I have seen some wonderful set ups , just don't want to freak the husband out with it being too large lol as he thinks the 120 cage is big , since maybe the next size up with lofts will increase space for them.
Any ideas

Hello! I hope I can answer a few of your questions!

The reccomended size for 2 piggies is a 2x4 cage, which you would need 12 grids for. Obviously the bigger the better cage wise though :)
You can ad levels and adjust your cage at any time, but you would have to adjust the base to it too, which can be done easily with a little bit of craftiness. Sadly lofts cannot be counted in the overall space for your piggies as they are ground roaming animals, so you can only count the ground floor. A 2x4 cage is slightly bigger than a 120cm store bought cage.

You'd only need a lid on youe cage if you have any other animals or children that could access your pets, to keep them safe.

For a basic C&C cage you would need grids, connectors, Correx (or your chosen base) cable ties and gaffa tape :).

Hope this helps!

Thank you that's helpful , if I order from c and c website , it comes with connectors etc?
Maybe the extra fiver for the next size might be okay :D
I will measure I think and warn him , I have two year old twins , but they are fully supervise at all times the little monkeys:lol!: plus they are scared of anything that moves flies , spiders cats dogs ,utility room is out of access for them unless I am with them of course.
If the cage is off the floor is it safe to have no cover , will they jump?

Yes from the C&C website it should come with everything you need to put it up :) Having the cage up should be fine, as you said you supervise the children so they won't be able to harm them :)

I have two piggies and we are going to order a 2 x 4 with a loft area 1x2.. It's the largest we can fit in the living room so I am hoping they will be happy ! Have a look online at c&c guinea pig cages, lots of ideas and some great combinations..

I have a long wooden set of drawers that I am thinking would be idea to put it on , husband could make a ridge around to set in the cAge stop it moving off ,that would keep them out of reach of little fingers definitely!

I too am getting a C&C setup. The grids should be arriving today.

This is the cheapest place I could find the grids

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=231603650534&globalID=EBAY-GB

30 grids with connectors for £27. 100 cable ties can be bought in stores for 69p.

I'm trying to source correx locally. £15 is the cheapest so far for a 4mm sheet 8ft by 4ft. I've also emailed

www.candcguineapigcages.co.uk

to see if they supply correx only and the price. They supply it cut to size.

Yes that's what I was thinking of doing , I am going to measure my dresser and buy to fit I think , so glad I didn't rush and buy a cage I wouldn't have know about other options if it had not been for this site!

This is where I am ordering mine from, I would be interested to know if they sell the correx only ...

Well I got the tape measure out to see how big they are ,think I will be sticking with the 2x4 with loft , it is quite big the width is 77cm , think that's sufficient for mine .

Well I started the ball rolling and bought 23 side pieces with connectors for £17.48 hope they are okay , going to order a sheet of correx too , was going to order the ready to build one but I am on a budget , will make some liners for it too !

Of course you can add another level whenever you wish, but I personally don't like ramps for second levels incase of accidents, and the ramp does take up some floor space. :)
You will have to show us photos of when it's done :D

If you are worried about the other half freaking out because of the size of the cage, you could do as I did, just start off at a moderate size and then just extended it every few weeks, when my wife use to ask "is the cage bigger?" I would just tell her she's going crazy? My boys cage use to fit in the corner of the bedroom, now it is the bedroom!

I ordered mine today but it was slightly more costly at £99 inc £15 delivery............

I think the total of mine is around £29.00 delivered for the grids and correx, but t I ordered extra grids to make a stand at a cost of £13.00 , hopefully buying cheaply won't affect the end result , but nervous about making the base though!

[QUOTE="nervous about making the base though![/QUOTE]

It's surprisingly easy to cut. If cutting along the lengths of the flutes just let the knife/scissors slide as you cut. The flute will keep you straight.

If scoring the correx along the lengths of the flutes then turn you knife/scissors upside down. Place the tip inside one of the flutes and let the flute guide you again. The knife/scissors will only cut one side of the flute....and hey presto!

Cutting across the flutes is slightly more difficult. Make sure you have a really sharp knife or scissors.

Measure twice, cut once.

Good luck with it!

@artcasper where did you order it from in the end?
@Kerrie74 i ordered it from C&C Guinea pig cages online, i looked at the Grendle one you sent me and they were the same price .. i did toy with having a white one but went for black in the end with green Correx ! It won't be shipped until w/c 27th July ... not long to wait but i would like it now lol ! its hurting my back bending down to poo pick - kids won't do it yet lol ! cost me £99 in total eeeekkkkkkk... really need to get the hutch sold to go towards the cost :yikes:x

Aww bless. They do cost a bit to buy, but the grids are either hard to get or would just cost you the same to buy a set up :/ terrible really, they are only metal grids and connectors :/
