My guinea pig has a redish maroon colored spot on his eyelid. He keeps scratching it and keeps it half-open. Same thing behind one of the ears.
His other eye is fine- he still eats, drinks, and acts well. I'm taking him to the vet on Monday. Any suggestions?

Does he live with another piggy? I’m wondering if he has been accidentally caught with a toe nail from the other piggy or he could have caught himself while scratching? Either way, the vet will be able to tell you

If he's done it to himself in two places something is likely causing him to itch so a vet visit is the right way forward. Two common causes of intense itching are parasites (mites or lice) or fungal infection (like ringworm) - both have other symptoms too, and both are treatable but the treatments are quite different so it's important to know what you are dealing with. Thanks to your observance you've likely caught the early stages of whatever it is. Bear in mind that both of these can be passed onto/from another piggy so let the vet know who he lives with. Good luck x

Hi!

Unfortunately, your picture is too blurry for any guesses but good that you have booked him in at the vet's for a hands-on examination.
