We are worried about our guinea Leo, who has a thick scab on his head that is leaking pus. He has had scabs for quite a few days but we assumed that it was inflicted by max, our other pig as they fight quite a lot. The scab has only become ***** tonight and he definetly seems off colour today.

Unfortunately as it is sunday tomorrow, we can't take him to the vet till monday. Looking online it looks like it might be a fungal infection, does this sound right to you?

How should we treat him tomorrow? Should we seperate him from max for tonight?

Thanks in advance for your help.

sounds like an abcess, I would personally remove the scab and thoroughly clean the infected wound with something like dettol, squeezing all the pus out to remove the infection. But you have to be careful with abcesses, as sometimes they can go deeper than what you see.

Is it thick pus? Or is it just seeping liquid? Is there a lump? Guinea pigs have thick pus and that's why they are prone to abscesses. I would see a vet, particularly if there is a lump. Abscesses need to be drained and sometimes even surgically removed. Hope he feels better soon!
