It is a mere fairy tale that the Princess on the Pea is human, and that she is female. But then, trust humans to nick a good yarn and tweak it!
In fact, the story is actually about a handsome guinea pig boar - admittedly one with a penchant for cute pink cosies, which may have led to a misinterpretation as to the true gender of the hero considering human colour bias; it is not like any colour but green really mattered to a guinea pig!
And of course, the pea is just a human adaption from the dried hard poo at the bottom of the whole problem! But then, humans have this strange hang-up over toiletting and hygiene, as if sleeping on shrivelled leftover food was somehow more acceptable.
Proof needed? @Claire W 's Edward, who is currently on holiday here with his ladies, has been complaining bitterly all morning about having had the most appalling night lying on something very hard and most uncomfortable!
