I had this story returned to me today - I had entered it in a "summer ghost" competition. I thought some of you might like to read it.

Thanks for all your lovely comments. I have removed this now as I don't want it hanging around. I really appreciate your taking ther time to read it and comment, thanks. :)

Thanks Kelly.

At last I've got a comment ;D

Maybe I shouldn't have put this on.

No you should, i've just read it & it's fantastic Lucinda  :)
It's very emotive; :'( While reading i felt i was actually there.

That is brilliant, I went through the whole thing thinking it was a baby.... Have you ever tried to have anything published?

I've just seen this. It's brilliant Lucinda. Absolutely amazing. It made me cry. You're so talented. You really should get published.

Have just read this and what can i say but,
wow that's so poignant
Lovely words so strong
I've got tears yes i know i'm emotional, but that struck a cord
Lucinda you did it again, you've got a way with your words,
thanks again, i'm going to cut and paste (hope u don't mind) to keep this

Thanks everyone! I was just a bit nervous about putting this on. I have always written. I have written three novels, and am working on my fourth at the moment - and trying to re-do number two at the same time. Getting published in the UK is a nightmare. You can't do it without an agent.I have been turned down by so many. They only take on so very few new clients each year and it is impossible to break into the market. All you can do is keep trying. ;D

And, you were supposed to think it was a baby. Glad that worked. ;D

Lucinda,
have you tried approaching magazines? It might not be the market you really want, but it will get you published and a foot in the door!

I was actually approached by a magazine that ran in weekly parts a couple of years ago or so. It was called Animals, Animals, Animals.
They asked me to write an article on the importance of exercise and guinea care. It was a doddle to do and I got paid about £100 :)

It was great to see my name at the front of the mag too, doubt anyone else noticed it but that wasn't the point ;)

Good luck with your writing.

You'll find one lovey, and a brilliant one at that :)

Barbara - well done with your article!

I am going to try to see if I can sell this story to a mag. I wrote it for the competition and I couldn't do anything about selling it until the closing date. It's the first short story I have written for years. I have now done another one, and will see what I can do with that too.

Have just read your story,it was brilliant!,someone will want to publish it I'm sure, you obviously have a real talent ;)

That's great let us know how you get on. It's a pity we don't have more animal related mags in the UK. There are a few cat and dog ones and for breeders but no magazines for the dedicated small pet owner. Your story would be ideal for one of these if there was.

Barbara

Yes there's a womens mag, Chat or Bella or one of those weeklys that always has a short story in with a twist. This story would be ideal :)
