So over the past few days I have come to the decision that I no longer want to keep the pigs upstairs. After everything that has happened I want my pigs to be more of a central part of the home. At the moment they spend their nights upstairs and their days downstairs in the play pen with me.

I've decided that my un-used dining room is going to become the guinea pigs new home downstairs, so that they are always with me and I can do everything a lot more easily. I won't have to cart pigs up and down the stairs, cleaning will be easier as downstairs is laminated so I can sweep daily instead of getting the hoover out all the time. It will be easier for me to have cuddles, take pictures and transfer them to their outdoor run in summer. So I'm going to keep a log here of the progress. We need to re-decorate the dining room first and then we can begin the whole house shift around. I'm so excited!

Good for you! Although mine live in their own Piggy Palace I’ve only to take one step outside and all areas undercover so I don’t have to worry about getting cold and wet! Flossie Bun has taken over the garden room which is the access to outside go great for her too as she can run out and in when weather suitable. It is lovely having them all so near so I understand your excitement! I sit with Flossie at night but can also see the piggies going about their lives! Who needs a dining room anyway!
Will be waiting to hear your progress!

Thanks guys. It will take a few weeks as we need to gut the conservatory to move the dining set into there, then decorate the dining room before moving the pigs in. Exciting times though!

It sounds a great idea and a lot easier having them there now you’ve made your mind up Mine were in my living room and I loved them in there they got used to listening to horror movies and weren’t bothered at all about the noises they seem to thrive on hearing us. Thing is I couldn’t walk past without leaning in and kissing them. You’ll have to post a pic of it done.

Sounds like a big job to move everything but I’m sure you’ll find it much easier once you’ve done it. We gave up our dining room a few years ago. Apart from Christmas or major celebrations we don’t miss it. And I love being able to chat with my girls all the while that I’m downstairs. Your piggies will love being in the thick of things downstairs.

Looking forward to seeing it when you are all moved :) I am sure it will be so nice having them right next to you, if a little loud when the wheeking alarm goes off :))

Oh yes, I'm fully aware lol. They already know the sound of us getting up in a morning and demand everything then too!

You do realise they'll immediately recognise the sound of the fridge opening don't you? And they will expect to be fed every time the fridge opens?

This sound is inbuilt into their tiny food obsessed little minds, I am sure they know it from birth......

My three babies (Dennis, Christian and Meg) learnt it quickly enough. Probably within 3 days of being born! They are all slightly bigger now. It's amazing how quick they grow. They were less than the size of their heads when they were born 17 months ago!:yikes:

How lovely! It'll be nice for you to have them close by! :) Excited to see pictures!

I have my two in the dining room, my office is in the media room next door to the dining room so they can see me and chew their hidey’s for attention to distract me all day even when i’m preparing dinner. I feel like i’m being watched all day but it’s nice having them so close. I think you will love having them alot closer :)

Oooh that's a great idea having them downstairs all the time. (As you know we're converting our dining room into a piggie room too, much more work than it sounded at 1st though...phew!) Good luck with it and keep us updated. I'm sure your laid-back Digby will help with all the moving of piggie furniture etc...:D x

i agree, ive piggies all over the house and in the shed,it is much easier to get them into the runs outside,i cuddle the ones in the lounge more frequently, and seem to tame quicker, ive bedding all up the stairs, hay on the carpet! I'm going to have lamanate flooring placed in the spare bedroom.how exciting for you and your piggies.:)
