Hi all,

I'm a bit late with this post considering it's been cloudy as ever over here.

Yesterday was considered to be the peak date. But! Tonight, if the skies allow and you choose to ditch sleep for a nice warm blanket and perhaps a cup of hot tea, you should still be able to witness the biggest meteor shower of the year. It's my tradition every year to spend the night outside waiting for meteors, a bottle of red wine and crisps at hand.

If anyone's interested and haven't heard of this event, here's your notice, I hope for as little clouds as possible. Enjoy! :)

I would love to see it but unfortunately there is too much artificial light here to see much.
Good luck, I hope the skies stay clear for you.

Fantastic night! I saw two rare green ones (full of nicle), they explode with immense power and stay bright in the sky for a long while. Usually I wait until 3-4AM just to see one, this time they both appeared around midnight :)

Some photos with my super-duper high tech astrophotography machine called “iPhone”. The brightest “star” you can see is Capella - it is actually a quadruple star system. Two of the stars are dying and on their way to becoming red giants.

We had cloudy weather but I sat up very late. Learned a while back about using the iPhone in night mode and a 10s exposure. Caught a little of the purple haze (bottom right corner first photo) and a shooting star (in the second).
Was a magical night and much better than I managed to catch on my phone

Fantastic! I found adding contrast will also really give the photos some “umph” (I am sorry I could not think of the word for the life of me). The yellow icon below is what I fiddled with.

I set my phone down with a timer as well for extra crisp images.

It’s a bizarre feeling looking up at the sky, thinking of what is out there and what we are yet to discover. How small we really are, sometimes it really hits you :)

We have had the Northern Lights down here in Cornwall. This was in news site taken on 12/8/24

Wow! Purple shades are not at all common from what I know. It’s beautiful, I hope to one day see them in person as well!

Would loved to have watched it, but I couldn't see much with my eyes closed, I'm on earlies this week so I've been in bed early. 👍
It is a struggle - my body is hating me for the entire 3h of sleep I obtained :))

I a look but there's too much light here. I don't know what all the neighbour's are going to do at Christmas, we are surrounded by people with multi coloured flashing lights draped over fences and trees. They don't believe less is more here!

The English put everyone to shame with their Christmas decor! I was in and around Lancashire some years ago, in the winter we'd go on "decoration sight-seeing tours". You will glow brighter than Las Vegas during Christmas :tu:

Yes, I have seen them before many years ago in the 80’/90’ in Scotland where I had a caravan in Galloway. usually Green and red hues, not purple. It was cloudy last night and today is the same but will keep an eye out for clear nights. OH has always been interested in astrology
