Vikki
Adult Guinea Pig
An old man took his grandson to the beach and settling down on a rock he watched his grandson play. He noticed his grandson running backwards and forwards from shore to sea for some time with puzzlement and decided to go and see what he was doing. As he walked over he saw his grandson standing over a starfish.
"What are you doing?", asked the Grandfather.
"Well the starfish is on the beach and will die if it is away from the sea so I am putting it back.", the young boy replied.
"Son there are milions of startfish in the ocean and thousands of miles of beach, more than your legs can cover there is no way you can save them all!"
Gently cupping the starfish in his hands and holding it up the little boy said, "Well I saved this one", and began another walk to the ocean.
A friend who runs a local sanctuary told me this story when we were talking about the auction project, it is true that rescues have to combact neglect at the source but saving some individuals gives us hope. It is a huge never ending job of education, hard work and tears but the little ray of hope making a small difference keeps us all going.
At times morals are over looked to save the few, the job seems far too large but we hold on to what ever difference we can make. Rescuing on a large scale means hard decisions prioritising those most in need and doing what you can to help those you cannot take in and I have a huge respect for anyone who takes on this task.
We all have different approaches and opinions but we are all holding on the spirit of that little boy on the beach.
I hope you enjoyed the story it definately keeps me going!
