Hi all, our lovely new 3 storey cage has arrived! What wonderful service from Zooplus.....ordered on Sunday, delivered on Thursday.....brilliant!

I had grand plans of taking my time to set up the new cage......I would leave the boys in their big single-level cage til the new one was all kitted out and ready for them......but of course, impatience got the better of me and I just had to get the new cage out and set it up straight away!

So, at 10pm last night, me and my OH had finally finished.......ground floor is newpaper and a big deep hay bed to rummage around in.......first floor is custom fitted 'fleece/mattress pad' cage liner (with a hole cut in the middle for access to the ramp).......top floor is newspaper (for the moment, til I get some big pieces of Vetbed)........two inter-level platforms have cut to fit pieces of Vetbed.

We've fixed a fluffy tunnel onto one of the ramps, but we needn't have worries cos the boys soon got the hang of the ramps pretty quickly, no problem!

Then finally, we rigged up a semi permanent run to attach to the cage, made from C&C grids cable-tied together, so it can fold it up and put it away when we're at home.

Here's the final result.......we still have some modifications to make, but the boys seem to love it, and we're very pleased with the cage!

Wow, looks snazzy.

Out of curiosity, as i'm looking to change my set up - again.

How many pigs per one of those would you think was a good idea, 1/2/3? I wouldn't say more than three.

how much were they?

x

I'd say no more than 3..i have 2 in this cage and i did think hmmm 3 would be enough.

Hi Sonia, no I got the cage from Zooplus - it was reduced from £179 (I think) to £139.

Hi Lexybee91, to be honest, I'd say 3 at most. When I first unpacked the cage, I thought wow, look at all that room! Then I quickly swung from that to thinking, blimey, those ramp holes really do take away a lot of the floor space (I had a bit of a disappointed moment there!).

But now that they boys are in it, I'm back to thinking that it's a great cage and that it was definitely the right decision to get it ;)

The really excellent thing about it is that the boys can get away from each other! They're bezzie mates 90% of the time, but they're still sorting out dominance so they have the odd stand off and bicker. In this cage, they can completely get out of each other's way, and hopefully that will diffuse any situations. Their old cage was fantastic, absolutely huge, so there was plenty of room for them, but they were still sort of in each other's eye-sight so any arguments did occasionally tend to escalate.

Also, should they really fall out at any point in the future, we can split them up but still keep them reasonably close to each other.

Oh, and this is the 100cm long version of the cage - Essegi do a bigger one (120cm long) in what looks to be exactly the same design. i would imagine that the 120 version would house 4 pigs.

Tracey

Yes the design of the ramp holes could have been lots better..i thought at the sides would have been better.

Hi doglovinpiggylover, thanks for the compliment on the wallpaper and curtains - teal's a lovely colour isn't it? I love it too!

I just have to make sure that no part of the curtain pokes into the cage.....or you can imagine what will happen! Yup, one curtain with guinea pig teeth shaped holes in it! ;)

Hi Sonia, you weren't bidding on the damaged cage with the bent door a few weeks ago were you? Someone put a link to it on this forum, and I was bidding on it as well, but the bidding went too high for me at the time.

If it was you bidding against me, I bet you were cussing me as much as I was cussing you! LOL! ;)

No i put that link up..i had the one before..without bent door...that one went for £88 with the bent door.

Hi Sonia. Yeah, £88 for the 120cm was a fantastic bargain, but I just didn't have that kind of cash available at the time.

I was proper miffed i didn't get it at the time, but now I'm glad i went for the smaller one cos the bigger one just wouldn't have fit into that little space in my lounge.

Tracey x

So it was! I don't know why, I thought it was the bigger one! That was a real bargain, wasn't it? I wonder just how damaged the door was.

Tracey x

Well my door on the top had a bend in it..but nothing serious..soon mended :)

I got my cage for £62 was well chuffed and they threw in a wooden house thing.

Yes hun i totally agree it is a fab cage...but the floor holes could have been better thought out.

Wow, yours really was a bargain! Well done you! I suppose i could've waited til they had another one on auction, but I wanted the cage NOW......absolutely no patience whatsoever! Hehe!

Plus, I find the whole ebay thing soooo stressful! I'm like a ct on hot bricks when I'm bidding on something :{

I agree with you about the ramp holes, they would've been much better in the corner somewhere, but my two soon got the hang of them. Also, one of the short ramps sort of hangs over the ramp hole.....hard to describe, but I'm sure yours is the same.

Tracey x

Yes it does :S

I also hate Ebay..i never seem to get a bargain ( except for the cage :) ) It seems that what i bid on, the whole world starts bidding on :{

Yes the design of the ramp holes could have been lots better..i thought at the sides would have been better.

yep, i agree totally, such a waste of space. I wondered if my dad had a tool that he could cut a hole at the side with, and seal up the one in the middle somehow.

I am planning on doing it in the future..i will just put a floor tile over the hole..a lino kind and secure it with strong tape.

That's a good idea, but the more I think of it, the more I think the ramp holes aren't really a problem, and I don't think it would make all that much difference to have them in a different place.

I think the wooden 'shelves' make it look worse than it is, they deceive the eye..........cos the wood obscures about a third of the floor, it sort of looks like there's very little floor space, but I think you kind of forget there's loads of floor space under the 'shelves'!

I'm probably rambling, just ignore me...too much Malibu!

lol we had a mahooooosive conversation about mailibu at work yesterday!

are you a coke girl or a pineapple girl?

we were talking about our cage tonight, and it does make it a little more difficult to clean under the added shelves, and you cant see under them, but like you say, they have so much more area to run and explore so it must be a good thing.

I am seriously contemplating....somehow...having a roof garden on mine, dont know how, but can you imagine another level at the top, with grass growing in it.......lush...the piggles would lurve it

Definitely a Coke girl! Too sweet with pineapple!

A roof garden? LOL! Sounds great, but just thinking of the logistics of it is making my head hurt :{ We'll absolutely, definitely, certainly, categorically, without a shadow of a doubt want to see pics of that!
