Hi, as for the second level, I'd go for it, ours use all the time although I'd only bother if you can fit as large a size of possible and hides up there, ours is a bit of a funny shape, the upper level is 2 foot by 4 foot and then a 1 foot by 3 for the ramp and another 1 foot by 4ft that is on the side of the 2x4 for extra room and hay all together it's a C / horseshoe shape, if find this to be the only way I can make larger upper levels (horseshoe) because if I had it as a 3x4 foot that I do when a piggie from that herd requires quarantine I really have to get on my belly in the dirty piggie cage to clean out the back and change the fleece which is not the most fun thing ever lol, my biggest skinny stiltskin loves it though as I'm apparently a piggy climbing frameAbsolutely gorgeous . How many do you have altogether? I have a herd of 7 but can never get a good pic of all of them together. How big is their cage? Looks huge! Do yours regularly use the second story? I'm debating putting one up just to give them a bit more space in the future but not sure if they'd use it. Xx

Hi, as youl notice we have two skinny pigs, in winter even though I do have heating my double glazing is buggered it can get a bit cold and I don't 100% trust that the petsafe hestpads stay hot for the time they claim although I do have a few of them so over winter I feed them extra pellets so the skinnies can put on a bit extra weight and maybe not get so cold and put in heat pads, I know this isn't a perfect work around but I did once wake up in the middle of the night to a skinny pig being obnoxiously loud in distress and she was cold and shivering ever since then I take winter really carefully, I plan on getting my windows sorted this year so no more fat piggies again hopefully lolto our friendly forum what lovely piggies! How many do you have as you mention side herds too? Just a quick note on the amount of pellets you have there. Piggies should only be given a tablespoon per piggy per day. I scatter feed the pellets to my piggies and they love routing around for them. It gives them stimulation and exercise too. They are certainly enjoying their veg.
Aww wow, lovely piggies you have there and such wonderful stories. Do they all get along well? And thank you for the advice I will be making a second story hopefully at the weekend in a horse shoe shape! This cage is all together 40 square feet, with the downstairs being just above 28 square feet. There's 9 of them in this hutch.
Jaffa cake - new boar I acquired from my sister as he started fighting his brother pinochio, his brother is paired with piglet which is like his mother dumpling, all white. Jaffa is black and ginger Abyssinian
Dumpling - we acquired dumpling pregnant and aswell as piglet she gave us Missie, who is all white other than a black patch on both eyes, she is the smaller white one you see and dumpling is our absolutely huge white one, she's a really big pig. Over a foot long, she also gets a shaved bum every few weeks because she's got such long hair and gets really messy. Despite being the biggest pig by a large stretch dumpling is super clumsy and our most submissive pig, even more than the littles which is both hillarious and crazy, she also really really loves kale and our nicest pig to other pigs every pig cuddles up to her, and likes her alot she never gets grumpy in heat.
Pumpkin - we also got pumpkin from the same person as dumpling at the same time, and guess what, also pregnant, she gave us Jaffa cake and pinochio who where so big at the time of birth that by week 2 all of mums milk was gone and they were already mounting females, I kid you not. She's the black white and ginger absy you can see. Despite being the most anxious pig around humans she is the leader amoungst the girls.
Stilt skin - our very first skinny and she's as bald as they come, she never really has been as affectionate as our other skinny pig but she's super confident, full black with a ginger nose.
Munchkin - our absy white and brown diva, she's by far the most dramatic, and will squeel whenever someone steps a foot the wrong direction, all her absy seems to have gone to her bum, as it's very fluffy and it makes it looks like she wiggles her bum lots when she walks, she loves attention and cuddles, shes the first to the front of the hutch at food time and the last to leave, she also regularly will come up to you when your cleaning the hutch or nearby. Just to say hello
Thumble (thumbleina) - our young skinny pig, at least, she was a skinny pig as she got older she started to grow more and more hair, she's black pink and ginger and is warewolf meaning she's got alot of hair but it's thin and wire like so she's still somewhat skinny. She also loves attention and is very affectionate she will come up to you when your near the hutch for example my desk for work is next to it and shel require strokes on the head and chin every couple of minutes until she falls asleep inside the hutch. She loves humans. And cutest of all her favourite pig is stilt skin our other skinny, it's adorable when they cuddle together
Bambi - thumbs sister, a Lakeland brown and ginger, she's a kind piggy just like dump and they're very bonded together, very cute cuddle times insue.
Ginger - ginger had a sister we were given ginger and her sister who sadly passed away the person had an unplanned pregnancy and didn't know what to do with the pigs, and ginger has been an amazing pig to get especially as a baby she's got such a unique coat, she's got a crest / bowl cut hairstyle and is mostly ginger with some light brown and white her coat is completely mirrored both sides and it looks really cool, shes also Jaffa cakes main girlfriend lol. Ginger and munchkin are very bonded to eachother.
Missie - Missie is dumplings daughter we obviously never got to see dad but we assume he must've had alot of black fur because dump and piglet have non yet missy has a fair bit, she's alot more confident than her mum and leads the younger girls. She is also very bonded and close to dumpling and Bambi.
They do, it's much easier to bond girls imo than boys bear that in mind if your looking for a big herdAww wow, lovely piggies you have there and such wonderful stories. Do they all get along well? We have snuggle safes, although it's impossible to stager heating them at night which is obviously the time where it gets really cold, well unless I wake up every few hours to do, which isn't really possible. They do have lots of snuggly hides, most of the really snuggly hides they trample and lay ontop of rather than in, I can only figure out it's either a dominance thing "I'm taller than you" or it feels nicer to be off the floor, all my hutch is fleece so when they're is spare blankets they go ontop of or inside hides, I have a teepee for example it's all furry on the inside I think it's made for chihuahuas but the guineas love it, the setup we have at the minute seems to be warm enough and to be honest our youngest skinny is getting to full size in a few weeks now so it shouldn't be too much of a problem from then on anyway, just when she was about 3 or so weeks she was tiny, skinnies imo tend to be really small and she just couldn't retain heatPellets are the chocolate of piggy world do feeding them extra will lead to them gaining ‘bad’ weight. Snuggle safes work well you could also cover the cage with fleece, give them lots of fleece hides and stagger when you put the heat pads in. And note pellets can lead to less hay.
