Phoebe is glad to be back outside and in the pond with her friends again! I finally found Becky, who escaped and had some ducklings with a wild duck. They are all safe now with me
Yup! The ducklings are a bit skittish but they follow their mother. There's only 2, but I can't get close enough to sex them. They are runnerXmallard crosses (if that means anything to you) so I'm pretty sure they will be able to fly.Great photos. So glad you found Becky. Little Madam. Phoebe has her friend back. Do you also have the ducklings?
No sorry a runner duck means nothing but mallards are pretty common. Does it mean runners don't fly whereas mallards are flyers?Yup! The ducklings are a bit skittish but they follow their mother. I hope you can get photos of the ducklings. I suppose father is a mallard who has done a "runner" and left all his parental responsibilities to the mum.
Couldn't explain betterOh you have missed a delight @worried val of york. Indian Runner Ducks are my all time favourite. They stand tall and upright, they don't waddle and just as their name says, they run. They are adorable. In this part of the world they often use them in place of sheep for sheepdog training and sheepdog trials. I just love them. Mallard crossed ones look absolutely fabulous. And they lay fabulous eggs.
Guess who's getting baby Pygmy goats soonThanks for explanation @VickiA. Runners seem to be a duck full of character. When I win the lottery and can buy my small holding they will be on my to get list, together with retired racehorse, donkey and goat. I can but keep hoping.
