So I have a client who comes in periodically, 2 beautiful shelties. Thursday they came in, even with a change of bedding from wood shavings to fleece, they were still badly matted. Drastic action required. As it took me so long they stayed overnight and received lots of treats. I felt bad for them. It’s a reminder that a few mins brushing daily will prevent this. The girls are now super sensitive to getting their rear end brushed. They left with a smidge of conditioner on their fur (not skin) to aid with future brushing.

Oh goodness. Poor piggies - it’s so easy for long hair to get matted. Glad they are looking so much better.

They must have been in much pain from the matts. How often do they bring them in? Could they bring them in more often? Do they know how to brush properly? Some people grab a slicker brush and just put that through the coat; they don't use a comb. If they can't/won't brush them properly have they considered cutting them short enough so they can't mat? I'm sure you've asked all of this and I know it sounds drastic but might be less stressful for you, them and the piggies.

I only brush Posh about once a week and never had any mats whatsoever but maybe her hair is coarser. Poor little ladies 😊

Poor girls.
I don’t need to brush Priscilla very often but it’s her bum fur that gets matted so she gets that regularly checked and kept short and clean.
It’s not a major job if you keep on top of it.

Those two look so much better after your pampering

I hardly ever needed to brush The Ever Beautiful Betsy but did need to give her a very fashionable wedge cut around her bum every 6-8 weeks to stop the fur from matting and she needed the occasional bum bath.

Poor piggies! They look much smarter and happier now.
Luckily my 2 long haired piggies only need a brush and a trim every couple of weeks. Lion was slightly matted and unkempt when I got him, but now he’s in a cleaner and more spacious environment his hair never looks as crazy as it did before.

Oh wow- ouch! This is why I used to give my sheltie crosses haircuts... I tried to keep Hadley's fur long and even with brushing it would get matted and she hated having it brushed out! They must feel so much better now!

Yeah all of that and I cut their fur to short back & sides and trim their legs etc - anything to help. They are absolutely stunning girls if only they gave them a brush.
