So, as many of my fellow forum members know, my two sows are rescued guinea pigs. When I bought them, I was told they were handled quite often, but their behavior made me believe otherwise.

The two would squeal, cry, kick, and fight much like a little child when anyone's hand came near them. After about three days of them settling in they became a bit more calm, but still would not let anyone near them.

It has been a little over two weeks since I received my two furry bundles, so I thought it was time to go in for the cuddles. It worked! They are so amazingly cuddly.

My Sheltie, Ikaros, loves to give chest kisses and nibbles. Nymph isn't quite there yet. She still freaks out a bit when you try to come and get her, but once she is on your lap, she quickly warms up to you. (She still gives love nibbles a bit too hard.)

My husband now lovingly calls me the guinea pig whisperer, because I seem to be the only one in the household the girls aren't afraid of. I feel kind of special, to be honest. Does anyone else have this relationship with their piggies?

You can usually get there with patience and persistence - and giving the piggies time to settle down and learn to trust. In some cases, it has taken me months, but I have always got there.
