Hi all, a few people have suggested a secret Santa on the forum so I wanted to highlight a fantastic project which began on the forum and has now become a big yearly event.

The Guinea Pig Secret Santa project supports rescues across the world by linking gifters with rescues so that Christmas presents can be sent to piggies in rescue on Christmas day.

If you want to take part in a guinea pig secret Santa we would urge you to sign up and support the excellent rescues across the world in the work that they do.

Is it only via Facebook again this year? Or is there going to be regular updates on here? It's a lovely idea but I won't be doing it if it's mostly Facebook. I did it several years in a row when it was coordinated through here. Xx

I should imagine it would be mostly through social media again this year. I think the demand grew much more than they imagined

Same with me, I do not use social media, so its a no from me. Good luck with it anyway, its a great gesture

I can remember the member who is sadly no longer on the forum which is a shame as the SS started on here.

To those who don’t have fb, you can still send a gift. Just email or phone the rescue of your choice for their address. Anything however big or small is appreciated.

I haven’t done SS since the project got too big but I always send a donation or a gift to a rescue of my choice. I tend to choose a different one each year

How does it work? Do you get allotted a piggie or a rescue or do you just send a box like they do in the schools for the children abroad?

Thi
I do the same as Clare and send a parcel to the rescue of my choice. Some rescues have wish lists if you look at their websites. Glynneath have an Amazon list.
This is an excellent idea.

Not sure how it is run unfortunately, we aren’t involved in the SS anymore it has run independent of the forum for many years now.

I had a look on their website and FB but it doesn't give much info on how it works. I like the idea of it though but I think I would rather do a box for GGPR or even send something to each of the rescues that are active on here.

The official Guinea Pig Secret Santa gathers rescue and residents details. You sign up online as a Santa. Then they go through a matching process and contact the Santas and give them the name and brief details of the piggy they have been allocated, details of the rescue’s wish list etc. Have a look at their page in FB that explains a bit more.

I am sure that any rescue will really appreciate that GGPR do great work :)

Thanks 😊I had a look on the FB page but didn't see that bit.

Apologies I haven’t looked at their page this year. It perhaps presumes that people know this is how it works. They have volunteers in UK and abroad I think.

It got so popular a few years back it mushroomed. But then people started becoming pushy demanding to see photos of “their piggy” opening “their present” and being unrealistic in their expectations. It’s just a bit of fun, really.

I did participate two or three times if I remember correctly. Stopped doing it because I was broke :xd:

This year I might do this though, as I'm "closer" to a pair of the rescues in here I'd like to send to one or two a lil something!
