i decided to change my piggies bedding as i was getting fed up of woodshavings getting everywhere!
i put 4 layers of towels & then a double layer of fleece
it lasted all of an hour !
the girls were burying themselves under the layers & pooping everywhere making it impossible to spot clean!
so they were evicted while i changed the cage back to woodshavings 8)
i think i need a cage liner or something so they cant get under the layers?
they are in a large cage in my living room & have a collapsible run to go in when they come out , i put fleece down then but because the run is on top of it they cant get under it rolleyes
so i don't think i will be a convert to fleece!
plus i spent ages trying to get the hay off the fleece to wash it because they had peed on it quite a bit!

I had the same problem only mine lasted longer.
After about 6wks of fleece they started burrowing underneath and the cage ended up in a right mess, it would drive me mad!

They are in a c&c cage now and I did start using half fleece, half newspaper and hay, but they started burrowing again and they would squabble under there.
They are now on plentry of layers of newspaper and hay and it's brilliant :)
It looks so natural and they love to burrow and forage under their hay-after all this is a Piggys natural habitat.

I certainly don't miss trying to gt hay/hair off the fleece and washing it. I simply roll all the newspaper up containing everything, have a brush around and it's done. They don't smell and I only do a complete clean out once a week :)

Ive been using fleece for 18months-2yrs now and wouldn't use anything else. did you secure the fleece to the cage sides or the absorbent layer underneath?

On the odd occassion when ive had to separate my pigs for any reason (either quarantine with a new one or illness/falling out etc) i use a 120 cage and secure the fleece by trapping it between the plastic base and cage bars.

I currently use a combination of washable bed pads underneath some fleece and cotton mattress toppers under others (ive got 5 cages). Some of my fleece is sewn to the pads/toppers so are one complete blanket meaning piggies cannot burrow underneath. For my other fleeces i use cheap bulldog clips and clip the fleece material to the underneath layer - again this stops burrowing underneath the fleece.....

Maybe try getting some cheap clips and try clipping the fleece to the layer underneath.......

two out of my four developed this bad habit mallethead
What I do is take the fleece and drape it over the edges of the correx and tuck it under the base, then with mini bull dog clips, clip the edges of the correx to the grids. So effectively, I'm wrapping the base in fleece which is clipped to both the correx and the grids. You of course need a big enough fleece to achieve this ;)
But that makes it impossible to get at as the over hang is tucked under the correx and trapped there, hope that helps! :)

I bulldog clip the fleece to the correx and pop bricks in the corners! Prevents them chewing the correx too :)

thanks all!
i might try hay & newspaper next time i clean them out?
i tucked the fleece under the towels but no! the buggers found a way under & were having a bit of a barney under there!
will they chew the newspaper?
i think i might try & sew a cage liner ? or just use bulldog clips as you guys suggested :))
