Laura-Mae
Junior Guinea Pig
Meet Rost! Well...you may have already met him in his intro thread, but here he is for you to meet again!
I figured this would be the best place to post updates. I just so happen to love taking pics of my precious guy, so of course said updates will have pics (and sometimes videos) to go with them! Also I...apologize in advance for being rambly. I may tend to get carried away talking about my fur kiddos, but I'm sure you guys can relate!
When we brought Rost home, he came with a cozy little All Living Things cage, his carrier, his plastic pink hidey, some paper bedding, and some hay. And...well...he had a plastic roll-around ball too, but...we promptly retired it to say the least. Still, it was obvious to me that the folks who cared for him before really loved him, and who could blame them? So I knew I had to take extra good care of him! That being said, I knew he needed more space, so I decided to start giving him more floor time! But after the kind suggestion of a forum member (thanks again, @Siikibam!), I let him build up his confidence first~ And even though his place was pretty small, he clearly felt much more safe in there.
Still, I knew he'd have to get an upgrade ASAP! And today, Rost's new cage finally came in! It took absolutely forever to get here, but it was worth the wait!~ Here's a good ol'-fashioned before and after!
Even though he felt comfortable and confident in his "bachelor pad," he definitely deserved a lot more space! This MidWest is just the beginning of his territory expansion, though. Of course the next (easy) step will be getting a proper table to get him off the ground. I was careful to avoid drafty areas for his cage placement, but if he's better off high up, then high up he shall be! His final upgrade will happen when he meets and picks his cagemate. The rescue we'll be dating him at sells C&C cages that they make, so we'll be grabbing them a 2x6 to share~ Boy am I excited! Still, that's a short ways away.
Rost and I are still working on bonding and earning each other's trust. (Mainly just me earning his trust, of course). Next step I'd like would be for him to be comfortable enough for a bum trim, because my gosh does he need one! But I think the cage is a big step up for now. I'll be posting more updates as they happen -- hopefully sooner rather than later! Keeping in mind I don't want to stress my guy out or anything~
Until then, here's some obligatory "enjoying my new toys" goofball pics~
