Hello!
My name is Sarah and my two boars are Jeffery And Sonic.
I have a 6x2 C&C cage for my boys and at this point in time using a vet bed (washed every week) as a bedding with a towel underneath (washed every 3days).

I am wondering if this is best for my pigs. It is very hot here in Aus with days reaching 42 degrees! madness!

So i wish to do what is best. Your advice is truly appreciated.

Thank you! :D

That is far to hot, if you don't have air conditioners. Freeze some ice blocks then wrap them up with fleece & put them in their cage so the piggies can lay on them & cool off.

I also live in Australia and the temp got up to 37 degrees today so hoping for no temps in the 40's this year (even the aircon struggles with that) so the ice block idea will be a great idea when temp gets really hot. I use fleece as bedding, I was concerned that using the fleece would be to hot for the piggies in summer but we have aircon so they have been pretty comfortable. Vet bed is fleece isn't it? If so then they should be fine on vet bed if you have aircon.

There are lots of tips in the thread that @sport_billy linked to, but when it was hot here in the Summer (oh sooooo long ago) one of my piggies favorite things was an old floor tile, which I put in their cage (sharp edges covered in duct tape) for them to lay on. I just popped it down on top of their regular fleece and would often find one of them stretched out on it.

This morning it was minus 15 degrees here when we got up, but by the time I went out at 10:30am it had warmed up to a balmy minus 11 degrees (Celsius). :yikes:

I am also using a ice bottle covered by fleece, the other day 2 ice bottles since I wasn't home for the day. Its a very bushy / fluffy material which is what makes me worried. Particularly when we aren't home to keep an eye on them.
I might look into getting fitted fleece for the summer and having the vet bed for winter.

Thank you everyone for your advice it could literally be life saving. :)

That's also a excellent idea, cat used to love lounging on the tiles in summer.

I went to Switzerland 2010, it was just coming on summer there so was still cold but a fresh sort of cold, I was suprised by how clean it looked there. It was my favourite of all the European countries we visited.
