Hi

It’s been 3 weeks since archies last dental. he’s teeth weren’t too bad and they were able to be filed no problem. he was back eating normally days after.

Today he doesn’t look quite right. he’s chewing a bit funny but i cant see how it’s his teeth again. we waited 7 months between appointments the last time. he’s having stuff to eat but the chewing is concerning me. he’s also very gassy so he’s got some tummy medicine for that which should make him feel better

what could be the matter? i’m hoping that he’s got something stuck or something like that. he’s been doing so well :(

If he’s acting weird in chewing then get him seen again. Hay (and grass) is what wears down the teeth. Hopefully it’ll be something simple again and he can go longer next time.

As someone who's dealt with a few dental piggies... definitely get him checked again...it could be simple like something lodged somewhere...or he may have an ulcer or something...but for peace of mind I'd get him looked at 💜

gonna wait and see what tomorrow brings as he’s cheery enough and with take handfeeding no bother. i’m praying it’s not elongated roots. he might just have something stuck because he was fine yesterday.

As a mum of a now Rainbow Bridge, dental piggy; yes the teeth do grow back that quickly and can ulcerate the mouth. Sorry!
some dental pigs do require regular dental work for life. I got my boy from weekly to once a month dentals with our amazing vets

i honestly don’t think it’s his actual teeth but maybe a little infection or ulcer on something like that. his teeth weren’t even that and when they got done the last time. i think he has a sore tummy as well which obviously isn’t helping lol

No, problems with the digestive tract won’t be helping. If he’s eating less the teeth will grow. It’s a difficult circle to break out of.
are you returning to the vet?
Hope he feels better soon!

dental issues are such a vicious circle. They stop eating all the hay that they need to keep the teeth ground down and rubbing nicely together. this can also unbalance the gut because they will choose to eat veggies and softer foods over hay. I found with my Ted that as time went on his conscious dentals became more and more frequent, partly caused by a very poor GA dental performed by a local exotic vets in lockdown. If he has an ulcer it may well be because a dental spur is rubbing his mouth somewhere, better to get it checked out sooner rather than later
Fingers crossed it’s just something stuck and it’s gone in the morning x

He is eating though. and tons of it. it’s the one thing he’s not stopped eating this whole time. he’s 3 and a half, so not exactly young. i’m very very concerned. he’s so bright and bubbly but i cant put my finger on what’s wrong.

I would get him seen if he’s not his usual self. Start weighing him once daily at the same time. If he were to lose consistently then you would have to step in and syringe feed him.
