My long haired guinea pig Felix seems to have a tender rump. Whenever I stroke him (of just gently touch him or even just the small trail above his bum) he jumps into the air and squeaks loudly. Sometimes he does a 180 degree turn when he jumps.

Is he in pain or could it just be he doesn't like to be touched there?

I've parted the fur to have a look if the skin was ok (which he was NOT happy about) and it was fine, not flaking, red or anything.

Some guinea pigs don't like being touched on the bottom or the belly. Has he always been like this or is it new?

If it is new, it could be early stages of mites.

He's been like it more or less since we had him (3 months) so I'd say it wasn't new :))

He's very quirky anyway so maybe this is just another of his little quirks ^^

Thank you for your answer :)

Not at the moment but he has been challenging our older boar, Archie, quite a bit.

Archie has kept him in his place though :))

Africa puts Leo in his place by doing that rumbling sound and trying to mount him, so i thought touching his rump might be like a dominating thing.
