Does anyone know how I could make a temporary home for new piggies for a day or two until I get their hutch? Also, I have an old hamster cage a bit like this one:

I know it's very small for guinea pigs, but would it be okay just for a day? I would take them out for a lot of the day, that would just be for night time. I'll try to sort something else out if this isn't good enough, but then I might not need a temporary cage at all :{
Any advice is welcome :)

Hi it really would be best if you could find something a lot bigger, piggies need room to move and they need to have a food bowl and a water bowl :)
Have you maybe a large box? that you could adapt?

Babies hopefully :) we were planning on getting them Friday, but that only gives me a few days helping them settle in before I'm back at school.
Okay... what kind of large box? Wood? I guess they would gnaw through cardboard way too quickly :))

No i'm pretty sure they wont nibble thru cardboard that quick!
Mind you my girl Onyx (aka the box nibbler!) makes holes in all the cardboard boxes i have as hidey/night time sleepy time covers rolleyes but it does take her awhile.
Little piggies if they're young aren't that big, but i'd still be concerned that if they're not family members they might fight cause they're not really used to each other :{ even now my girls who're sisters will get narky with each other if couped up too long in a box whilst i clean out their house!
I'd line the box whether it be cardboard or wood (make sure it's not treated wood as they could nibble and make them sick) with newspaper on the bottom and lots of hay, or if you can use fleece line again with newspaper and then the fleece on top. They'll need to be changed daily at least......... have a look in housing up the top you'll see a few hints etc.. on different typed of bedding :)

Oh, maybe they're not as bad as hamsters then.. my old hamster called Scramble ate her way through her little cardboard box on the way home from the pet shop!
I'll see if I have a cardboard box somewhere, probably do from amazon orders and stuff - I'll make sure it's quite a big one, I don't want to make them fight as soon as they get home :o I'm getting sisters, so hopefully that shouldn't be a problem as long as they have space.
Thanks for all the useful advice!
