Good morning ,
I hope someone can help . My little girl pig has just had major surgery to her teeth at the back she had spurs on her teeth removed , that consequently caused a lot of ulceration ti her cheeks too . I’m feeding her critical care 3 times a day and she is on anti inflammatory , antibiotic and also pain relief medication twice a day . This is day 3 and she is foraging around the cage with her sister but is not eating anything solid yet . Is this normal and am I being a little impatient with her recovery ? What’s everyone else’s experience ? Will she be ok ? I weighed her today and she has not any more weight since she went to the vets .

How you getting on with your little baby? Has she recovered from surgery and eating and drinking ok?

Hello and Welcome to the forum
So sorry one of your piggies has dental problems :hug:It’s a horrible problem and a rollercoaster ride of emotions for you, hang in there
Weigh your little lady daily and keep a record of her weights. This way you can see if she is losing weight, maintaining weight or putting weight back on. You are looking for a trend over several days. Hopefully she is maintaining her weight, if not then you need to step up the syringe feeds if she is loosing weight And not eating well/or at all.
Piggies often don’t eat after dental surgery, it’s not easy but try hand feeding little bits if veggies/grass and treats that she loves and see if she will take them. They often loose confidence eating because it hurts and they have struggled, once they realise they can eat then they will, provided the dental spurs have been filed properly and the tooth surface is smooth and they are not in pain. The ulceration will heal, but may be quite sore at the moment.
You can mush up pellet with warm water and feed that too. A small bowl of plain dry oats can be placed in the cage, plus grated carrots, sweet potatoes, a little mashed banana. it’s very much trial and error.

Good luck
