I was on the Illness board and if anyone was following my thread on the recent death of my piggy you will know I have one boy left and I am at my wits end trying to comfort him. He went back into his cage, ate some veggies hasn't drank anything at all today and we had a few cuddles earlier when he came home, I have been checking him regularly and making sure he is comfortable. He is lying on his (deceased) brothers area that he use to sleep on. I went in to take him out for another cuddle before bedtime and he started chattering his teeth like crazy and fluffing out his fur, am I right in thinking this is an angry pig ? he is ready to attack ? I don't want him to feel like this, is there anything I can do to help him ? is he mad at me ?

Do you know anyone with piggies or have a rescue near who could lend you a hutch and piggy. Sometimes just having another pig in seeing distance helps settle a berived piggy.

Yes teeth chattering is a warning sign from guinea pigs to back off, but he is most likely sad/angry because he is on his own now and would like a friend, losing his cage mate after spending so long with them might have affected him some. So I think a friend and perhaps a change of cage are needed or perhaps just clean the cage and re-arrange it, so the piggy can move on from the loss.

Thanks for the replies, I am in the Countryside so a great distance from any sort of rescue places and pet shops, I don't know anyone in the neighbouring houses with guineas. I could do a trip to the next county and purchase another guinea but it's breaking my heart replacing the deceased one, I know it would probably be better getting him a new friend but he just seems so angry, I'm not sure if he'd take to someone new. I made sure his cage was completely cleaned out and removed all the brother's belongings before he came home. Do you think he'll settle in time alone or will I have to replace the deceased piggy ?

Leave him to pine first - Snowy is telling you to stay away from him, because he's unhappy. Most guinea pig want to be left alone when they're mourning.

Some rescues rehome nationwide, provided you can pass a home check of some kind and organise a pick up (we call it a piggie train). There've been quite a lot of big rescue actions in several parts of the country with many pregnant sows and loads of babies already there or in the pipeline; it may be useful to if you put a thread out on the "guinea pig wanted section". It will take some time to organise; so Snowy may be ready for a new baby friend bythen.

He might prefer to stay on his own, though, but like to have company nearby.
So much depends on his character and what happened to him while you were away!

You have to listen to your guts and see what is right for him, and for you. Right now, you're probably still too upset to make any decisions straight away! Give yourself and Snowy time to settle and rebuild his trust. He might prefer to have Barts things with him; that's probably why he's angry wth you. I usually leave something of the dead guinea pig with the other, so the smell can fade slowly while they come to terms with their loss.
