Hello,

I'm needing some help or advice even. I've had my guineas 3 weeks on Friday coming, we waited roughly 1 week before trying to pet/handle them. We have little girl who will be 2 in May. I've kept them in the living room where we normally all are so they can get used to her as well. We feed them kale every morning (they take it out of mine&the wee ones hands) and have added spinach recently after I've filled their food and water. they get out for between 1 and 2 hours each day.

The issue I'm having is when I set the run up and open the cage they start teeth chattering like mad both of them, when ever they come to sniff me they run off just as quick. I'm worried they're not settling in. They were bought together from a little pet shop but seem to be mounting each other on a daily basis with a weird sound, I know this is to do with being the boss of the cage ect. Is there a way I can get them to come to me to be put in the run. At the moment they are jumping into a strawberry shaped hideout and I transfer them into the run then they come out when they're ready. Once they're in they popcorn and wheek loads so I think they like the run just not me? can anyone help please?

It sounds like your piggies are actually very well settled if they will take food from your hands and play in their run and are already trained to jump in a hidey house to be moved, as prey animals most piggies will always instinctively run away from someone trying to pick them up, even the most friendly settled piggies do this. The teeth chattering probably means "hurry up and set that nice run up for us".
You probably need to think about altering the diet to give less kale and spinach and a bigger variety of veggies that are lower in calcium, have a look under the "food" forum section for our diet guide and discussions- peppers, cucumber, and fresh herbs like coriander/cilantro are good everyday piggy foods with kale and spinach usually fed less often.
But it sounds like your piggies are doing fine with enjoying life and getting used to you :)

Thank you so much for this reply I was doing something wrong! I'll go have a look at the veggies and things they do have some broccoli but didn't even think of peppers or cucumber, chopping some up now. Feeling much more confident about it now thank you.
