Just wondering if anyone can explain this. Yesterday I was lying on the sofa cuddling Gilbert piggie, he was sitting on my chest squeaking, like he does when he's being cuddled, but then he started chattering his teeth! Reallly fast, like he was eating, and all his whiskers were going. I thought this was a sign that a pig wasn't happy, but he was still squeaking away and sitting on my chest quite happily without any attempt to go.

So could teeth chattering be a sign of contentment?

Thanks Joanne, yes that's what he does, only his whiskers twitch a lot more. Odd isn't it ?/

Fred is a very handsome piggy :)

I think they are weirdo's :))... Fred also does it if I am feeding the girls though the bars and he's plucking up the courage to come get some!

I don't think Fred is ****** off when he does it, he looks the other way too...

Thanks, he is a very cute piggy!

Ludo does this and I was always under the impression he wasn't happy. The noise makes me cringe that I have to put him back, maybe he knows this so does it on purpose...rolleyes

Ahh I think piggies are often a lot smarter than we give them credit for LOL!

It definitely looks like an unhappy or aggressive behaviour, but the rest of Gilbert's behaviour so much contradicted that that I had to wonder. My friend who used to keep rats said that rats chatter their teeth when they are happy, so could this be the same thing...?
