Forum Donator 2023/24
Hello!
Well, Keith has well and truly hit puberty! He's 7 months old, and up to now there has been some rumbling, and a little humping. However, last night it was awful, there was chasing, mounting, chattering (the latter from both sides), head raising and lunging. Gibson ended up hiding in the big house and desperately trying to avoid the tornado that was Keith. I took him out and we had a nice cuddle. I then took Keith out. He usually sits happily chatting away loving it. Last night I could hardly keep hold of him - he was desperate to get back to the cage/Gibson. I put him back and the chasing continued for another 15 minutes or so. I distracted him with an entire box of fresh hay and a fresh ice pack, I hated leaving them overnight, but kept my fingers crossed.
All seems Ok this morning, though Gibson looks exhausted.
Of course, I will keep an eye on things, but aside from letting the dominance battle play out? Gibson is just over 5 years old, and quite frail now (health checked ok but still got that 'old' look and feel to him), and I don't want him to suffer - he was trying his best to give as good as he got yesterday, bless him!
Shall I just watch and wait? They seem to be friends again this morning...
