Hi all.I got my boar jimin out a little while ago for a cuddle and while I was stroking him, noticed his ear felt weird.I put him on my bed to take a look and he has a tear in it.I'm not sure when he did it, I don't handle him everyday and not sure how it's happened. He hasn't acted any different to how he does everyday and is still begging for food and bumbling around. From the picture I've attached, does anyone think I should take him to the vets tomorrow or does it look to br healing?I've got left over loxicom here from my late poppy.

Poor Jimin!

Ouch! That looks rather nasty. Personally, I would have that vet checked.

Ear rips can happen as the result of a nail getting stuck on the ear during scratching, from a mate's misjudged back foot swipe or as the result of an ear bite/the piggy moving at the same time or a nail getting stuck in the bite hole afterwards.

Oh blimey. That’s a nasty looking injury. What a stoic little pig he is. I’d get that checked over just to be sure.

Poor little Jimin, it looks like he’s caught it in something. Hope you can get in and it’s easily sorted 🤞

I saw one of my local vets in the end.She prescribed baytril for a week but did mention about stitching his ear together under anesthetic. She was also putting an ear bud in both his ears as it looked dirty in there and she had a look under a microscope as she thought it was ear mites.Luckily it's not.He wasnt a happy boy when she was feeling his injured ear and putting the ear bud in both ears.I ended up getting a nip off of him.

Poor boy! Being hurt where it already hurts is never fun. But glad that rabbit ear mites are not an issue.

Thanks.Looking at the picture I posted yesterday do you think surgery will be required? She was worried he will catch his ear on something and make it worse.

Poor Jimin. Did he get pain killers too? I would only operate if it’s really necessary. How’s it looking today?

I think I would play it by ear (no pun intended) as they do seem to heal very quickly.

It looks the same really. No I didn't but I've still got a fair bit left of dog loxicom that my late poppy was prescribed.I did mention to the vet I'd started jimin on loxicom last night and found it weird she didn't ask what dose it was and ask whether it was cat or dog strength.
