I have just built a 4x3 c&c cage for my 4 girls (the grids are bigger than a ft and make the interior space 4ft by 5ft) and I can't currently afford correx, is tarpaulin a good alternative?

Madguinealady on this forum uses just puppy pads and fleece and I have a similar system with a shower curtain under puppy pads and fleece in my run. The correx/cloroplast (same thing) is to stop the bedding going everywhere which it will if you dont use Corex and you have a loose bedding. But if you are going to use fleece or similar then it will be OK to just put a tarpaulin down to protect your floor :)=

I was just worried about it aeeping through to the floor. I have down 2 matress protectors and a fleece blanket. Will this be enough?
I'm also worried that the sides can be moved if the guineas push hard enough.

If you are worried about your floor use some cheap shower curtains under the mattress protectors.... I cant answer your questions on whether they will push under it though as I dont have the cubes system, I use those hexagonal play pens to attach to the cages.

That's great, thank you!
I'm not so much worried about them getting underneath, juat that they'll keep ammending the shape through pushing it. If that makes any sense haha.

I've seen people use tarp, thick shower curtains, rubber matting and sheets of plastic. You might be able to score some cheap corrugated plastic at a local sign shop.
Good luck making your cage!

Thanks :)
I've got the girls in it now just with mattress protectors and fleece and I'm gonna pick up some shower curtains tomorrow :)

I have used tarpaulin before I got my correx. It worked pretty well so I had no problems :))

Lino offcuts are another option which works well and it's easy to clean. I wouldn't worry about the pigs pushing the grids out of shape if they're fixed together securely, when mine had a c&c type cage I never used correx and didn't have any problems.

To stop your piggies pushing the sides out, what about putting some wire or strong thread underneath the shower curtain to join both sides. Maybe do this about 3 times or so.

That is a great idea. Thanks so much everyone, I got my shower curtain today and I'll definitely try the wire idea.
My grids are connected with just cable ties as I didn't have connecters which is why I'm so worried about them moving.

Mine are connected with cable ties and the piggies don't move them much.I have litter trays with shavings and hay in that my piggies love. They even sleep in them. What are you using as hay racks

I have 2 deep, large cat litter trays filled with back2nature and hay :) they love it.
I have to say I love having a c&c cage, it's so much easily cleaned and the girls are loving the vast amount of space they have :)
