Although my pigs still have skin problems, what is keeping me uplifted is that they both appear to be getting tamer!
I’ve only had them less than three weeks and they seem to be getting used to the hustle and bustle of our flat (even my boyfriend’s video games lol).

They get excited when they hear my refilling their hay or pellets. They even got excited when I was pouring my cereal the other day – bit of a false alarm poor things. They come out of their respective houses and will have a sniff whereas before they would scoot back in as soon as I loomed over their cage.

They would never take food from our hands, standing statue still whenever we offered them food. We’re hoping that because we feed them veggies from the hand whilst they’re on our laps, that they will associate good food with being held. I’m so stoked they let us do this. I thought they’d never come around! It's so nice to see them taking food from us.

I thought I would share this with you all – I think my own friends are getting sick of me babbling on about guineas :))

Hi, your post gave me hope about the taming thing! We have only had our two for a few days and are still at the stage where they disappear whenever we go near them. Here's hoping it only takes a few weeks til ours are pleased to see us like yours!

Good to hear :))
I've had my two for 4.5 weeks and Luna is very tame already! :)) Penny however, will run (waddle) up to the bars and wheek at me when its time for veggies but doesn't like being handled, but that's probably because she's expecting. Hopefully when she has delivered she'll be a lot calmer and a bit more trusting when I go to touch her.

And I think my friends and family are getting sick of me going on about my piggies too. They think its bad now...It'll be a lot worse when I have cute little mini-pigs running around :))

That's lovely!

I've had my second set of piggies for a year this month and just in the last month they have shown complete trust now. They learnt to trust taking food from me pretty quickly, coming up to me and simple things. Leaning over teh cage to shut the curtains, shutting the curtains, picking them up with little or no fight and hoovering around them are all they have let me do in the last few months.

It's lovely to see them completely tame now. Though at the moment Arthur chutters when he sees me reaching in because he has to have eyedrops 3x a day which he hates. He's very good when I have him though and lets me put the drops in without fighting or squirming. :)

Ha, that's what this place is for, I know I never get sick of reading/writing/talking about guinea pigs :)

Piggies ettle down and get used to owners at their own pace and it varies a lot from pig to pig. I hope it's helpful to know that our first two, Biscuit and Caramel, settled down at massively different paces. Biscuit was answering his name, climbing into my arms and generally really enjoying being with me within about 2 months. Caramel took a lot longer. He's really happy and tame now but he is still shy when it comes to new noises and, although he loves cuddle time, he still won't climb up into my wife's arms - you still have to pick him up.

I'm glad your piggy is settling in well and getting used to the new surroundings. Best of luck and hopefully it will continue.

I'm so glad it's given you hope! I was totally like that when I first got mine. I see pictures of people with their guineas sitting watching tv with them or just chilling with them on the sofa and I can't WAIT til it gets to that stage.

Had a little bit of a breakthrough today, they came up and put their front two paws on the side of the cage when I went down to speak to them. It was so sweet. Unfortunately due to the massive amount of hormones coursing through my system at the moment, I had a bit of a cry in front of the cage as I was so happy. I kinda thought they thought I was an ogre and would always hate me. Especially since I have to apply medicine to their faces every day
