Hi, we have just got a run so we can take the guinea pigs outside during lockdown. Our Guinea pigs are always kept indoors and haven’t been outside for a long time. I was just wondering what temperatures I can take the pigs out in as the weather had been quite up and down lately. The run is in a shaded part of the garden and we will put lots of houses for them to hide in, they are also going to be on a fleece blanket as we get our grass treated so I don’t want them eating it.

Edit* the next few days it’s forecast 17 degrees and cloudy, I’m mainly worried about the wind. Are they best staying in if there is a cool breeze or can I just cover part of the cage with a towel so they are sheltered?

Generally 15 degrees or over is fine. I tend to go by my own feeling on the day though - if I am warm outside then they will be able to come out. If it is breezy, but warm enough, then I cover part of their run so it’s sheltered. Always ensuring they have some houses or boxes to go into. It’s 13 where I am today, but there isn’t a breeze, it feels warm, I wasn’t cold to be outside so I’ve had mine out with hides and their run sheltered. If they don’t look comfortable, then they go back in. (It’s worth noting though that mine live outside in my shed year round, indoor piggies may feel more uncomfortable quicker than mine do but the general rule is the same)

Thank you! It’s 15 but breezy here so I’ve just covered half of the cage up with a towel so they have shelter xx
