I am concerned one of my piggies (the one in my avatar) might have dental issues and I’m taking her into see a vet but I have her in a herd of 4. Should I just take 1 of the other 3 with her and leave 2 at home?

You can take one to accompany her. Pick the one she seems to get on best with. All the best for the appointment, I hope it’s something simple.

I hope all goes well at the vets. I agree with taking another piggy companion as a paw holder.

Of course they can’t get us in until next week!

It’s not my usual vet where my dogs go to. My dog has a rare nail disorder however and has had sedation For that. He’s great except the disease causes his nails to crack and fall out at any given time even when they seem strong and may grow back in normal.

So I got an idea of what sedation might cost. I’m just curious because I never took a pig to any vet so if it’s as little as a teeth trimming would that need sedation? I don’t know if it’s a conscious thing or not. I just know sedating costs extra than exam and medicine.

I can take them to my regular local vet but he doesn’t really do exotics which Guinea pigs fall into that category. My regular vet specializes in canines, felines and avionary (spelling? Birds). In the meantime Arwen is still eating hay, her oxbow pellets and veggies. Just not biscuits and no pea flakes. She grabs then drops the biscuit. She doesn’t like pea flakes but I gotta point out that she did eat them before. Just not anymore. Also i think I should get a video of her when she is actually eating. That might help.

Tuesday morning she’s going in to a good exotic vet. Well reviewed and rated staff.

So Arwen has to be given anesthesia for a few of her teeth her Mollars .

And for sure The vet bill will do very little to soften the blow, I’m in the US. But this is the best Guinea pig forum imo.
But we scheduled the appointment for the molars. It’s going to be more $$$ than I would have expected.

Arwen and Galadriel were purchased as babies from a petstore chain when I didn’t know any better. All my sows since Arwen and Galadriel have been rescues - don’t shop, adopt. But they are the 2 originals and they are very special to me. I would have Galadriels teeth filed if needed too but the vet charges per piggy. Or else I totally would. But they prob don’t come from the best stock to begin with :( But again they are special to me still.

Arwen is losing weight too. She was at one time the 2nd heaviest of my herd now she’s the lightest pig I have.

If she is losing weight then she isn’t eating enough hay. Please step in and syringe feed her a fibre rich recovery feed to replace her lost hay intake. Her weight needs to be kept as stable as possible at each daily weight check

All About Syringe Feeding and Medicating Guinea Pigs with Videos and Pictures

Holding you in my thoughts.
Caring for a sick piggy is tiring.
As @Piggies&buns has said syringe feeding is essential.
I sometimes add a small piece of mashed banana to the feed, it’s very popular with mine.
I also put a small dish of mixed grated carrot or sweet potato with raw oats in the cage to help encourage eating. A small dish of the syringe feed mush can also be left in the cage.

I was once advised on the forum to offer shredded lettuce as it’s easy to eat.
