Just wanted to pass on a bit of info on my own recent experience with my piggies Spud and Freckles who live in a hutch in a shed - the shed is insulated and well ventilated but I now think they have a fungal infection (getting to vet tomorrow) and I've come to the conclusion that as the shed is dry and the bedding is changed daily, that it's been my own over worrying about them getting cold that may have caused it.
Recently the weather has turned and I put more hay in the bedding area and also a cardboard box over that with two entrance holes and I think the boys have been lazing a lot in there and probably the result has been a sweaty sauna on their butts!
Haven't done this with the younger ones chewy and poppy as they had a snuggle pad in with them and they are fine.
So even though I took care to insulate and ventilate the shed, keep all bedding dry and clean, I think I reduced the ventilation in the actual sleeping area too much as I am sure two chunky boys who pee alot create a lot of moisture in there!
So just wanted to pass on this so that anyone in the same position as me doesn't go overboard in trying to snuggle their piggies up, as I forgot that really doing that should only be reserved for the really cold days when the temperature drops below zero and everything is freezing.
Hope this helps!
