Hello

my baby girl has been doing fine, but today she has begun to start hyperventilating, she has been sleeping on a heating pad for days due to recovering from a URI and has been fine happy, but after coming home today she seems to be worse.

Anyone have experience with syringe feeding them when they hyperventilate, she needs syringe feeding, but I am worried she will stress and get worse, any way to make her calm down?

The vet said to give her some painkiller and wait, and I am not sure how much more I should wait, its been around an hour since she was giving pain meds.

Thank you

Hi and welcome

Can you please explain what do you mean with 'hyperventilting'?

Guinea pigs are not much in the way of mouth breathers. They only do it when they are in respiratory distress. Any gasping or struggling to breathe counts as a life or death emergency, which needs to be seen by a vet asap at any time of the day or night if you have out of hours/round the clock services.

If you are worried about her breathing I would take her back to the vets. Good luck. I hope she is ok. 👍🏻

called the vets twice before writing they only told me to give her pain meds and inflamatory, they had no time at all, even if I asked
sadly it is too late now, she past away shortly after my message, I am so shcoked, sad and angry they didnt have means to find a way to see her in an emergency, guess they felt it wasnt as serious, even if they could hear and I told her how she was over the phone
