Swollen penis

Another emergency vet visit, just before our holiday!

I just got Squeaks out of the hutch to take him for grass time, and decided to check.his weight etc before putting him in the case, and was rather shocked to see his penis extended and looking very swollen. I've never seen any of my boars with their willies out , so I don't know what they should look like, but the size of a round broad bean (about 1cm across and1.5 long) doesn't seem right.
I put him in the run with Winifred then had another look to see if I could see any constriction, but the penis itself had retracted and only a frilly top was visible. I think there is swelling still under the skin though.

I'm getting onto the vets, it will probably be another hideously expensive emergency appointment, and like so many others here, I'm off on my hols at the weekend, the piggies should be going to the boarders tomorrow ...

Anybody have any ideas what's up? He seems fine in himself otherwise!
 
Aw poor Squeaks :( You're right and these things always seem to happen at the most inconvenient of times. Edward's problems all started just before I went on holiday. Edward's penis came out his foreskin a few weeks ago after a sperm rod got stuck in it. It was slighly swollen but thankfully the vet nurse managed to retract it. He was prescribed metacam for inflammation and I was advised to buy some lubricant in case it happened again buy thankfully that wasn't needed and he's had no issues with his penis since

Thanks :tu: Can you remember how big Edward's penis swelled to? I'm hoping the vet who sees Squeaks is experienced enough to be able to find and sort the problem 🙏🤞
I've got an overflow appointment for 7:30pm, the earliest they could do. In the meantime the receptionist suggested I try a cold compress, but I don't think that would help if it's a blockage or constriction. I'll be keeping a close eye on him until we go 🧐 Poor boy he won't enjoy having his privates prodded even more!

It swelled to about the size of a straw. I’m sure he won’t enjoy having his private’s messed with but I’m sure he’ll feel better once he’s on anti inflammatory and his penis is safely back where it belongs

I hate to say it but you don't think there could be a stone like George had squeezed out? George's penis wasn't extended but you could feel the broad-bean sized lump inside it. Is he peeing OK or is his bladder swollen? Hope you get some answers and really hope it's nothing at all. Oh these boars!

I did wonder about the possibility, yes. I haven't tried to see if he is peeing ok, may do in a few minutes if I've time before we go.
 
The vet has taken S out the back to try to look better at the problem, maybe try to squeeze out any blockage (he needs a vet nurse to hold wriggly Squeaks). He mentioned maybe steroids - I can't remember clearly, can piggies have steroids?
 
Phew! Much relief, both for Squeaks and for me! Turns out he had a collar of dried boar glue around his boarhood, constricting it. The vet was able to get it off straightforwardly and he said it was quite a size :eek: Squeaks showed how relieved he was by widdling on the consulting room table :D

Glad that's sorted before he goes to the boarders tomorrow. I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't decided to check his tummy etc today, and just at the time when his penis was out and visible...
 
So pleased to hear Squeaks is ok ! What a relief for you - enjoy your holiday …..I think you need it now more than ever 🥰
