Hi there,

Mario has a swollen lymph node on one side .. next vets app is monday ..
he is otherwise very well .. i’ve read all the posts on lymphoma and praying not that …

My questions are

If its a bacterial infection obv he will need antibiotics- I'm going for the pediatric septrin (cant spell) but has anybody managed to kick this infection on its own .. ? obv going to give antibiotics! As might be from wee infection or something

Is this an emergency? Is monday too late ?!

Could this be viral ? No respiratory problems , no signs of temp like over drinking

Should i get biopsy immediately or try antib ‘s first - baring in mind i live on a shoestring

Thanks 🙏 I'm doing my best not to worry too much . I'm going to spot clean every day (hutch ) rather than every other day .. the indoor run i change pee pads daily and liners every other day . Could it be the antibacterial washing powder ? (Napisan ?) no probs for last 4 months however 🤔

Xx

I would really be guided by the vet on this, a physical examination and temperature check will help identify if there is any infection and where it is, also if any other lymph nodes are swollen.

Lymph nodes are distributed throughout the body, and usually in lymphoma several will be swollen at ince- if that looks likely, the vet can easily take a biopsy with a needle and send some of the fluid to the lab to see what you are dealing with. Some lymphomas are slow growing and treatable, others are aggressive and sadly aren't.

More likely this is an infection if only 1 lymph node is affected, though you cant be certain without a full physical examination by a vet who knows where all the lymph nodes are.

If it is an infection, finding exactly what is infected is the first priority- that will help narrow down what bacteria are likely to be involved and what the most suitable antibiotic might be.

Piggies rarely get viruses, maybe adenoviruses but not much else- most of their infections are bacterial, and there are a range of antibiotics suitable for different bacterial infections.

Only a vet can say what is needed here, try not to worry- if your piggy is eating and pooping fine and not wheezing or making pain vocalisations when toileting, not hunched up with pain or lethargic, mostly acting normally and you can't identify any redness or swelling or injuries- then Monday is soon enough. If you do observe any of the above symptoms, a more urgent emergency appointment may be needed.

Thanks so much , that is very helpful . I feel a bit reassured. Thanks so much xx

It turned out to be inflammation.. not sure why. Could be a leaser lymph node or a foreign body being expelled (entry through the mouth).. on loxicom .. if no change will do a needle .. and hope to get something through all the fat ! Xx

That is great news! What relief for you!
