Hi

I've just got home from work and noticed one of my piggy's eyes is swollen in the corner. I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow if it hasn't gone down. Does anyone know what could have caused it? Top picture is how it is now. Bottom one is how it is normally.

Is there anything I should do in the meantime? She doesn't seem bothered by it.

Hi

I am very sorry but without a hands-on examination it is impossible for us to tell you. It is most likely an infection of some sort and may need some sort of antibiotic (oral or locally applied drops/gel), depending on your vet's findings.

Good that you have booked her in already. Until then, you will have to wait. We don't recommend to dab something onto the eye on spec.

She has my life! She has chronic URIs and sore feet and now a potential eye infection. She really worries me sick.

I've taken her out and had a good look and can't see anything foreign in the eye. It looks a bit wet but no pus or discharge.

Just got her out for cuddles and it's back to normal. I'm sure she just likes winding me up! I'll keep an eye on it in case it swells again but I'm thinking she's maybe just rubbed it and it's swollen temporarily. 20210616_185439.webp

Piggies can give you the heebees! But glad that it is nothing serious. It could have also been just a temporary blockage of the tear duct but without a hands-on examination it is impossible to say.

I swear she sits all day plotting how to scare the poop out of me when I get in from work. It's still looking OK so must have just been something transient.
