Hi,

I currently use fleece in my c&c cages.

I am due to go away in a few weeks and have a friend house & piggy sitting while I'm away. My piggy's are so messy that I have to change their fleece & towels everyday but did not really want my friend to have to do this everyday if it can be helped.

Can anyone come up with an idea on how i can prevent having to clean a fleece lined c&c out everyday?

If not, I was thinking of using megazorb for the 5 days that I'm away in the hope that this will last longer - is there any harm swapping my piggy's onto megazorb for this short period of time?

Many Thanks for your help

They should be okay on megazorb.

An idea for fleece, if you have enough, you could put in 5 layers of fleece an absorbent layers. For example, if you use towels, put down towels, then fleece, then towels, then fleece. Put enough layers for 5 days. Have your friend take out the top layers and shake out in the garden or in a trash bag. Then save them in a laundry bag for you. Have her do this everyday and you'll have clean fleece for your piggies.

Edit to add. It would also be much easier if you have the fleece sewn to the absorbent layer.

Megazorb will be OK, You could trial it before hand.

How big is your C&C?

Another alternative would just to used newspaper, then your friend could come along and remove and replace the soiled bits. If you put some hay filled litter trays or cardboard boxes filled with hay and your friend replaces the soiled hay everyday and some fleecy beds they will still have some where soft to lay.

Thanks for your replies.

Salt n peppers mum: My c&c is 5ft x 4ft

I will trial megazorb before i go and see how it goes - how long do most people go between full clean outs with megazorb? (cleaning out the soiled corners each day would not be a problem)

If the megazorb does not go down too well with my piggies, I may try the extra layers of fleece and towels and ask her to take a layer out each day - would the bottom layers not end up smelling by the time i got to them though ?

I would say just use newspapers. That way your friend can see which bits are soiled and change just those bits. If you wanted to give them something comfy to lie on invest in a cozy or bed before you go away.

I'm currently trialling Megazorb for exactly the same reason as you...I'm worried that my parents (piggy sitters while I'm away) will find fleece a bit too labour intensive!

So far so good, I love the Megazorb....so much so that I'm thinking of swapping to it permanently!
