Hi and a big thank you to all of you for posting about the various types of bedding for our piggies. I also got Seti wood shavings as I thought that would be the most economical and easy tye of bedding, but since reading the forum I have realised that this bedding is not very safe and I have noticed Seti sneezing a lot lately.

I went out today and bought Seti 2 fleece blankets, one to have and one to use whilst the other is washing. I removed all of the wood shavings and lined his cage with the fleece. At first he seemed to love it, but now h is trying to pull it up along the edges of his cage. Can anyone offer advice? Is this normal? How can I secure it? Is he only doing it because it is new and different? etc. I really want to persevere with this bedding as I think it will be much more comfortable for him in the long run.

He still has his hay feeder and that does spill on to the fleece too. Also if he nibbles some of the fleece, will it harm him?

Thanks

Jenny and Seti

You can use closepegs to keep it in place, Marvin does this 2 I ended up just allowing him to seen he was having so much fun! Is Seti a baby or young piggies? Does Seti have a friend...?!

Seti is just 1 year old and he lives alone, but obviously gets lots of cuddles and attention.

I guess that this must be a change for him as he is used to wood shavings since he was a baby.

It may take hime to get used to it! My Fred didn't really bother with it but you would think I have an elephant in the cage with marvin tossing things around to get under it lol.

Why not secure it with pegs?

If you have an indoors cage like me, I just trapped the fleeced with the cage top (which meant cutting a generous piece).

That way, Taffy couldn't burrow under it anymore and has stopped now, even though she could in her new cage!

If you can afford it, give Seti a little baby friend. He would be so much happier if he had company of his kind.

My piggies used to hide under the fleece too and whilst I felt a bit mean stopping them, letting them do it just meant more mess and poop everywhere so I now trap the fleece between the bottom tray and the top part of the cage. (Does that make sense?) It works well and now I've cut up a fleece and I put some small pieces in the boys pigloo's so that they can still hide in. Works for us. xx

Thats an excellent idea :))

I put loose pieces of vetbet and fleece around the cage and they love moving them around. Whenever I get home from work they have rearranged their quarters. I think they get it from me, I'm quite into interior design too... :)

Thanks for the advce, trapping it sounds like a great idea, also putting a towel underneath, I will definately give these a try.

Seti seems quite settled at the moment, he is all snuggled and sleeping outside of his house, which he never does, so I am taking it as a good sign.

Seti now seems much happier with his fleece. I have noticed a real change in him, he now sleeps outside of his house, so I get to see him a lot more and he doesn't run away at the smallest movements like he used to, he seems more settled.

I placed the fleece up the sides of the base of his cage and clipped it in to place with the top part. It has stopped his burrowing, so a big thanks to everyone for the advice.

I have also put a towel under the fleece to absorb any liquid and that also seems to be working much better. I clean the fleece every morning by removing the droppings etc which is a little annoying but no way near as bad as having to sweep wood shavings constantly!

Thank you everyone.
