I've been informed that my current cage is below the minimum recommendation for 2 guinea pigs, and I'm aware it'll need to be upgraded when my baby sows grow a bit bigger. I used a link for C & C cages from the forum and they are a lot cheaper than I expected! The only problem is, I keep my guinea pigs in my room and I wouldn't have a lot of space for anything else/ it would be very, very packed if I got a 2x5 or 2x6 cage like I want to. (because with a 2x3 cage, my room is still very crowded) I could always get a 2x4 cage but I think it would be nicer for my piggies to have more space? Or, if anyone knows any really effective ways of storing guinea pig supplies/ anything else in my room to save space, let me know!

A 2x4 should be big enough for 2 sows. As for storage solutions, is it possible to have the setup off the floor on a low table? You can cable tie grids across the bottom underneath the correx to stop the grids from falling off the edge of the table :)

Thank you! I already have my piggies on a table that is about half my height, maybe a bit more (I'm about 5'5 and too lazy to see what that is in centimetres lol) My 2x3 cage only just fits on the table, so I'm guessing a 2x4 c & c grid wouldn't fit on it. The only place in my room that could fit them is in front of my window, but that has a radiator underneath and I'm wondering if that would affect the guinea pigs.

It’s fine to overhang on either end a touch, we have a 5x2 on a table 48” wide. How wide is your table?

Maybe, that is a good idea! In my kitchen we have 2 freezers with a sturdy wooden slab on top and it works perfectly! Could be a good idea for the piggies.
Is it possible to get a piece of wood to lay on top of the table, to give you a bigger area to fit a 2x4 on?

My table is basically the same size as our cage (100cm x 50cm) and I'm wondering if a 2 x 4 will fit on it because isn't that about 20cm more in width and length?

Yeah that sounds a wee bit excessive :hmm:
The idea @Lorcan said sounds good. Would it be possible to attach the wood to the table? I wouldn’t want you banging holes in a fine antique table :))

We could always get another table! It might be hard to find one that big though, I'm not sure. And it's not an antique by any means! Just a plastic fold out table!

We have ended up have to extend the tables we bought as I assumed a 5x2 cage would in fact be 5x2 but it isn’t. It’s defo 5ft long, which equates to 4 grids (I thought it would be 5) and the width is 2’10” which meant the liners I had made were too narrow . It’s the connectors that make it wider.

We had some left over click flooring so extended the table top using that and then also used the flooring for the ramp. You can just see this on the right of the cage. We then stuck pee pads to the flooring and then an extra grid using cable ties on the side so they couldn’t fall off the higher part of the ramp.

I have seen some amazing creations on here. You could also have a 2x2 loft instead of a 2x1 (like mine on the pic) so that you have more square footage without using any extra space?

A spare table could always works! Maybe searching online for some ideas. I'd totally live to see your cage.

If you are talking about my cage, it's quite small unfortunately! They are only babies right now, but in the pics below you'll be able to tell they'll outgrow it.

You can build a stand from grids.
These are my old cages. Sorry the storage is kinda messy. I wanted to buy matching fabric bins for all the slots, but never gotten around to it.

No problem about the 'mess'! You should see the mess around the table I have my piggies on, hay everywhere! I get what you mean now, but since I really don't know a lot about C & C grids, can you tell me if the grids come seperate and you can just keep adding them on?

the grids you can buy individually for £2.50 each delivery might be steep not sure though if you are only buying a few.

Ah, thank you! Is there a certain place to buy them from? I know where to buy the full on cages but not individual grids!

Scouring eBay and Amazon usually throws up some grids, but make sure they are the correct type. The ones with 9 holes are suitable for piggy use, 7 and 8 hole grids are at risk for piggies getting their head stuck in them.

Here in USA, you can buy boxes of grids that are sold as storage shelves. I think I used 3 boxes for those cages. One box has 23 grids (panels).

Check ebay, amazon and Wayfair.
