Hi... my Buttercup needs a large lump removed but it's on his belly. I've been reluctant because I'm worried about aftercare... The Vet said it'd be fine, but I'm not a Vet.
He will be in pain and how will he drink? How will I keep the wound clean? Last surgery he had he was in so much pain and it was his back not his TUMMY. I won't be able to move him as that would hurt and he likely won't want to walk because the stitches on his belly so what should I do? Any advice? I'm heartbroken and was wishing to avoid this but the lump is growing 😭😭😭

I'm sorry to hear he needs surgery.

He will be able to move about, drink and eat post-surgery. He may be slower for a while but he will be able to do it.

I've had several animals have had to have abdominal surgery and given its important piggies and rabbits are always eating, vets dont discharge them until they are sure they are up, moving about, eating and drinking for themselves.

Your boy will be given pain killers and you should be given some to bring home to give him for a few days after surgery.

Ensure he is on a soft bedding, nothing disposable, so use fleece or VetBed is brilliant for animals post-surgery.

The guide below offers further information.

I hope his surgery goes well.

It sounds like you are going to take good care of him afterwards. He’s beautiful.
