I have two boars who are nearly 2 years old. I get them out for floor time often. However they don't run around or go through the tunnels or even really move, they find something to eat or simply snooze in the sun. They were never super active but now I'm beginning to worry that all this eating and no excercise is going to affect their health. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make them more active ?
Thanks
Pip

I have two 3 year old sows who are exactly the same. When they were younger they used to zoom around during floor time, and would popcorn and explore. As they get older they become less active.

Make floor time different each time. Put out lots of tunnels, boxes, houses, beds, and make a fleece forrest for them to run through. Also put out a few different types of toys (balls, jingle toys, soft toys, toilet roll tubes stuffed with hay) for them to play with. Make it as interesting for them as possible. Feed them their veggies during floor time, but don't just put them in a bowl, scatter them around the area and hide them so they have to go searching.

Don't worry too much about it affecting their health. Guinea pigs aren't active animals. As long as you are feeding them an appropriate diet and giving them the opportunity to exercise by letting them out for floor time every day, then they will be fine.

I have one boy who will be 4 in November who has never been very active at floor time even as a baby, unlike his cagemate who at almost 3 still loves to zoom around. I put down tunnels at various spots & spread vegies all around to make the lazy boy move some. It works, although he will never qualify for the 100 yard dash.

Have you tried getting them out at different times? Piggies are supposedly most active mornings & evenings - I have found that mine aren't bothered about floor time when I get them out in the day, but in the evening they love it. I agree with the other comments, hiding veggies everywhere always works! I wouldn't worry too much though, I think some piggies are just less active than others :)

Thanks so much ! It's hard at the moment because I have exams but I let them out everyday when it's dry in their run and as much as possible in the house when its wet ! :) thanks again I will definitely get some new toys to try and realise their inner child ;)
