Winston and Beanie both have one ear which is without fur and is pink........I thought that they would need some sun protection when they go out in the run....do any of you put sun screen on your piggies ears?
If so which do you recommend?
High spf for children? I was thinking of getting simple sun screen as there's nothing added (perfume etc)

thanks for any advice

xx

I put unperfumed sun screen on, but also make sure that there is always plenty of shade by pegging a bathing towel over the run. they don't like to be out in the blazing sun - better sense than most humans!

I used my sons suncream, called Bergaderm, its for sensitive skin

Thanks for this thread, it's something I've never thought of asking! I knew that protection from the sun was important - Skinnies and Baldwins especially - but never considered what type or SPF sunscreen was best. rolleyes

I find that a really good sun shade for the run is an old shower curtain, its waterproof so doesn't get soaked if it rains, and because its large I can pin it in various positions around the run depending on where the sun is. 8)

I use Nivea factor 50 (my mum has a sun allergy so i use hers :)) ) on one of my pigs as he has one pink ear. They have a hut which is nice and cool but i still put it on just in case. It hasn't caused him any problems so i should think it's ok.

I think with any new thing put a bit on and keep a close eye. Then if it irritates you can wash it off straight away.

Kids sun creams or sensitive skin ones would probably be fine as well.

I will only use the forever living suncreen but this can only be bought from a distributor and not a shop. You can find it via google and there is one currently on ebay.

^ yeah but i mean would it be better to use it on pigs whose ears are a different colour or is it just pink ears that are sensitive to the sun

I would use it on any ears that haven't got hair :)

Yes I use sunblock on piggie ears. At the moment I'm using a factor 25 Liz Earle one, organic, but I'm not fussy. Unperfumed is best though.
