Hi

My garden is a bit of a sun trap so I’m looking for ideas to keep the sun directly off the hutch! Any ideas what I could use please?

Thanks xx

We built something similar to this for our outdoor rabbit hutch, but made sure the roof had a much bigger overhang.

We also attached screw eyes around the edge, so we can add sun sails in really hot weather.
BUT having said all of that our rabbits have a large area with their main hutch, a smaller hutch, 2 wire runs (each one is 2m long) and everything is connected by various pipes and tunnels.
The shelter over the hutch does keep it shaded, but becasue of the size of their enclosure they can always choose to be in a natural shade becasue when the hutch is in the sun, another part of their run will be in the shade.
Even with their lean to enclosure and sun sails when it is in full sun their hutch still gets pretty hot, and they never choose to be in it, so I would be worried about placing piggies outside in a hutch if it was going to be in full sun during the hottest part of the day.

I’ve put their run in the shed with the doors open for ventilation. It’s been a little too windy to put them on the grass when they’re used to indoors. I check on them every hour and the temp has been fine. I’m still bringing them indoor at night because I’m not ready to put them out yet 🙈 xx
