I hope this is in the right area. This weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a beautiful one to boot. It's our first season in our new home which happens to be in a suburban neighborhood about 5 houses from a large park, trails and the Susquehanna River. This weekend has been the first that we have really gotten to know our neighborhood and it's lovely with lots of walkers, gardeners and kids riding around. Late last night there were a couple fireworks which were not long nor much to hear. I was talking to my neighbor, however, and she said it would get very bad here this weekend with the park and especially as the summer goes on.

I had the babies out in their new open run about an hour and they got a lot of attention today. It was fine and they seemed to roll with that after the first few minutes. I did take them back in as soon as any of them looked nervous for the amount of noise and attention. I was talking with a different neighbor today whom was asking if they would be ok with the noise at the parks and nearby for fireworks, etc. It did get me to thinking as even our chihuahuas get very nervous with extra noise and if there was any extra care or advice that may be needed this weekend. My neighbors said it wouldn't be as bad as the 4th of July (according to them it goes all night) but tonight and tomorrow night would get pretty loud for some hours as there are many, many people all night on the trails and the water very close by.

Not nervous but trying to prepare in case I miss signs of distress for not knowing what I should have been looking for. Thank you.

I am assuming they live indoors?

If so cover most of their cage with a blanket (or light sheet if it is hot).
Make sure they have plenty of hideys.
Try and have some gentle background noise on 24/7 which will take the edge of the louder noises.
I actually use a you tube video - just search for 'soothing guinea pig music'.

I would probably also keep them inside for the next couple of days if there is a chance of fireworks going off during the day.

Good luck and I am sure you will be fine.

The music is a great idea with the sheet. They are indoor but in the family room which is connected as a main room to not only the front enclosed porch from the dining area but also alongside the kitchen and back enclosed porch. They are all windows so outside noise is almost like outdoors now with the weather.

It's usually quiet here at night so we've just left the doors open for air until early am when it cools below 65 f. Insomniac here with some health problems and long nights. I stay in the family room with the animals; I can easily keep on soft music and cover.

Thank you very much. Will be ready tonight.
