Today we noticed our baby pig has a breathing issue. It’s not constant noisy breathing, but I keep hearing congested grunts. That’s the best way I can describe it. We’ve had him 3 weeks, so he’s about 11-14 weeks old. We had gotten him from p@h during an acute pining type situation for our lone boar.
We are covered by p@h for 6 weeks, so we called them who told us they have no instore vet but to go to Vets4pets as they will reimburse us if we go there. So we made an appointment and managed to get a same day one. We can’t go inside this vet practice though.
Anyway, the conclusion of the appointment was that they struggled to keep him still enough to have a proper listen to his breathing. The vet who brought him out also joked that there was a bit of a scuffle when they weighed him but they ‘caught’ him. They’ve prescribed 0.1ml once a day of sulfatrim. We’ve weighed him ourselves and he comes to 528 grams. They prescribed it just in case, but like I said they couldn’t keep him still enough for a good length of time to hear properly.
With how everything seemed to have gone, I just wanted to double check that the dose of sulfatrim is correct. Even though it says once a day, I know it will need to be given twice a day due to piggies metabolising medication quickly.
