Hi guys! I havnt been on here in ages, been very busy! Hope everyone's all well and hope all the pigs of the forum are all well too :)

I'm going to buy my pigs a new cage, I just wanted some advice. Is this hutch suitable for 2 guinea pigs? http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/guinea_pig_cages/120_cm_cages/137393 I like that it has two tiers :) They have another size which is 1m by about 54cm that is also 2 tier will that do? I am a bit worried about the ramp though with them maybe falling off so i was thinking of getting a custom tunnelthat I have seen on here a few times, but I'm not sure where or who does them can * recommend someone? I will use cable ties to secure the tunnel onto the ramp so they go through that.

I could fit a 120cm cage but it will be quite a squeeze due to the space I have, so if the 1m by 54 would be suitable I'd be better off getting that.

Is it also big enough? Say for when I want to adopt some when my two pass on (dont want to think about that!) off here or another rescue centre or someyhing for those that do home checks would you say it is big enough?

The cage my two are in is a little too small I've never really measured it before as I adopted these two and it came with the cage and things. So I want to get them a much bigger cage :)

Thanks for any advice you can give :)

That second to last paragraph was supposed to read:

Is it also big enough? Say for when I want to adopt some when my two pass on (dont want to think about that!) for those that do home checks would you say it is big enough?

I had a very similar cage 4ftx2ft double storey for my first two piggies but they didn't use upstairs so we dismantled it and put the cages side by side. Hum, what a waste of lovely space - looked into Rescue websites and along came the Inspector to do our homecheck and lo and behold, we adopted two little boys.
In a nutshell, I'd say this set up is ok, RSPCA guidelines are 4x2ft minimum for two piggies but bigger is definitely better.
We changed to C&C last year which created huge spare room so adopted and rehomed more needy little ones x) 10 in total now so be warned ;)

We've just ordered a cage very similar to this for our two boys (the 120cm length one), as they've just been a boarding hotel and they were using the ramp after a couple of days, so we came home and ordered it straight away! I for one am very excited about it! Cosie cavies do the tunnel ramps here http://www.cosycavies.co.uk/products/tunnels/

It would need to be the 120cm cage. The smaller one would be less than the minimum requirements of 4ft x 2ft as the space needs to be on one level to allow running space (and the ramp also takes away some of the floor space).
A agree that a tunnel or other modification would be needed to make it safe for piggies to use the ramp. :)

Thanks for your replies :) and cheers for that link to cozycavies that's where I have seen them before! :)

That 120cm length cage has a width of 54cm is that still suitable? As I read that it had to be 60cm.

Thanks :)

Sorry don't mean to meither but will 54cm length be ok? Thanks

I like the 120cm one it is big enough too. But just be ready if they dont use both floor:)

Hi guys thanks for your responses! I ended up buying this one http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rat_cage/193553?source=aw (ive linked to it above also) as its big and I really liked the idea of habing a double tier just so then they can chill out away from.each other if they want. I think they will use the ramp eventually as I put a mezzanine floor in their current cage ages ago n use it all the time now.
I think I will take 3 of the wooden floors out though and just have the one in the bottom for definite (or the ramp will be too small and too steep!) Nd see how that goes then put another one in on the top floor!

Really can't wait till it arrives I've been making space for it all week! ( I am a bit of a hoarder so its taken me AGES! Lol) I can't wait to decorate it all up with neew stuff for them eee! bought themsome fleece and towels for their bedding too today :):)

Love x

I completely understand your excitement! I'm waiting
on the delivery of a two tier cage- I've got an ever-growing pile of fleeces, hammocks, an arm chair, a bed, I need to be kept away from the computer! The only thing I'm worried about is the ramp- not about them not using it, but about making it safe- I'm not sure what the best way is to attach a bannister either side of the wooden ramp, whether I can use glue or nails...anyway, enjoy decorating, mine should be here by Thursday!

Hehe same here only I've got to wait till pay day which is on Friday to get them some more stuff as I've spent up haha!

I'm going to use a tunnel from the website somebody posted to earlier in the thread they have velcro strips on the bottom. I'm gonna get plenty of cable ties too and wrap them round the bars on the cage and around the outside of the tunnel so if they lean or pass each other in it it should stay put! Apparently putting a tunnel on the ramps can encourage them to use the ramp more :) ill let you know if it does! :)

Is perfectly suitable and if they dont like upstairs * can find a way to dismantle it and make it into 2 cages and get some grids where they combine!
