Hi everyone,I am having a bit of an issue at the moment with my group all sleeping in there own filth:{.I have a large c & c and i use fleece for nearly all of it except for a small seperate area that has there hay rack in.In there i had just been using newspaper as even the fleece couldnt cope with the amount of wee and poo and even with changing the paper twice a day it gets quite yucky and yet they seem to want to sleep there even though they have lovely cosies!Last weekend i decided to buy some carefresh but there was nt even enough for 2 changes and it still seemed damp to the touch.
I was wondering about shredded news paper?or if any one has any other ideas please.I have just had to give them all a wash again(grubby little devils)!

i have my piggies on fleece too and i got a cat litter tray, put a small amount of woodshavings and then hay on top. i change it everyday and it stops the hay from getting all over the fleece :) I'm not too sure about shredded newspaper as my two love to eat it and i think it goes soggy very quick

I use shredded paper at the moment in their litter tray and it's rubbish! Has to be changed constantly, I'm just waiting until I can get down to my local horsey shop to get some Megazorb!

I just use towels and two layers of fleece. I pick poops three times a day and change the fleece every three days. By then the towels are soaked.

I do use towels with my fleece and find it works fine,its just that they seem to just wee and poo all in the same place and the fleece and towels just cant cope and they feel damp quite quickly!:{

best bedding EVER!

I use kaytee clean and cozy for my kitchen area. Once I used it for the entire cage and a bag of it fits a 4 by 2 cage. A week later I almost forgot to clean the cage because it still didn't smell. It's so soft it feels like tissues. Spots with pee clump together and the bedding is white so you can see where they peed and if its discolored. It doesn't have a scent on it either. I really like this bedding and I hope other pig owners will try this too.

I dont mean to sound rude, but are you sure it is wicking properly? I ask this because I found that when my fleece wasnt wicking properly it felt damp within 24 hrs, I also found that the contact between the fleece and towel needs to be really tight/flush, and also the fleece wicked better with just one layer of fleece! I was using two layers before, and you could try using more towels underneath. Things you could try if you still want to use fleece.
Good luck

Hiya, I'm new to this guinea pig malarky but i do remember when I used fleece liners with reusable nappies it was really important not to use fabric softener as this stops the fleece wicking . Fabric softener tends to stick around in your washing machine so even if you don't use it for one cycle there'll still be residue from the last one swishing around, and it also stays in the fabric .

I put them through with just a bit of napisan for 3 washes to get the old detergent and conditioner out and then started washing with just detergent and either napisan or some drops of neat t-tree or eucalyptus essential oils

Hope this helps :-)

mine have always been on shavings and hay until very recently. after reading on here about vetbed i though i'd take the plunge and give it a try. the piggies love it. for their hay i now put some in a shallow willow basket or shallow boxes and they jump into them to nibble on it and sometimes to sleep. i don't have half the mess i used to have. i simply sweep any that gets around their hutches up with a dustpan and brush.
